The latest film in the My Hero Academia series titled My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: You’re Next, has achieved notable success since its release.
As of Sunday, the film has sold 1.65 million tickets and earned approximately 2.38 billion yen, which is about US$16.38 million.
It premiered in Japan on August 2, quickly gaining popularity by selling 608,500 tickets and grossing around 895 million yen (about US$6.16 million) within its first three days.
The film, available in various formats including IMAX and Dolby Cinema, will be shown in U.S. theaters starting October 11, with both English subtitles and dub versions.
Directed by Tensai Okamura and produced by BONES, the film features an original storyline set during a period of societal collapse, coinciding with the events of the TV anime.
New villain characters are introduced as members of the mysterious Gorrini Family. The film’s theme song Homunculus and the ending theme Gift are performed by Vaundy.
Key staff from the series, including scriptwriter Yōsuke Kuroda and character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi, return for this film, while the original manga creator Kōhei Horikoshi acts as the general supervisor and original character designer.
In addition to the film’s release, the My Hero Academia manga concluded on August 5. Launched in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014.
The manga has been a major success, with its 41st volume released on August 2 and the final volume expected in December.
To mark the end of the manga’s run, Shueisha will publish a final fanbook in January, an art book in April, and host a large-scale art exhibit in summer 2025.
The series also features a global popularity poll titled World Best Hero, with voting open until September 30.
