My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 9 Review
To begin with, it seemed as though the show was digging itself into a hole by having Eraserhead be the only obstacle Shigaraki could use to destroy the planet, but in My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 9, that part of the plot was resolved brilliantly.
So well, this had to have been planned years ago. Having a knack for recognizing what is important in a battle and making use of it in such a way that the rest of the characters aren’t underused or misused is a great accomplishment for Kouhei Horikoshi.
The parallels and connections between Shigaraki and Deku have been on my mind for a while, but now it is time to discuss them. Often, the most straightforward writing is the best writing, and that’s exactly what happened here.
Theirs was a straightforward story to tell, with Deku being the successor to All Might and Shigaraki being the same for All For One. Both males suffered greatly for their craft, but one was raised in a loving household and had no quirks, while the other was raised on the streets and had one of the strongest untapped oddities of all time.
Despite their inevitable collision on the crash course, there was an issue. When they first fought, Deku was still a kid without control of One For All, but Shigaraki immediately recognized his intent to kill. There was a huge discrepancy between their power levels.
During the series, Shigaraki became progressively stronger, and he became a nuclear-level threat, unable to even be overcome by the strongest heroes, killing many among them. While Deku was still just a kid, he barely had time to pass his exams, much less grow as strong as his brother.
His character was also criticized as a whole for that reason, as people were calling him “weak and pathetic” before he even turned 16 years old. In My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 9, Deku demonstrated his mantle as All Might’s successor by taking on Tomura Shigaraki by himself when he was at full strength and managed to keep him at bay by combining One For All’s powers with his own.
In addition, the show showed that Deku wasn’t just sitting around, not helping at school, and training with his friends. Speaking of friends, Bakugo is also one of the most maligned characters on the show, whose criticism is more understandable than that of Deku.
Over the previous two seasons, he has grown significantly as a team player and admirer of others, particularly Deku. This episode was named after Bakugo, who deserved it after what transpired at the end of My Hero Academia Season 6 Episode 9. He has always been extremely powerful and capable, but maturing as a character has allowed these aspects of him to show even brighter.
