The U.S. release date for the movie “My Hero Academia: You’re Next” was announced during a panel at Anime Expo 2024, set for October 11, 2024.
Originally revealed in August 2023 via Shounen Jump Magazine, the film introduces Dark Might, a new antagonist resembling the iconic Symbol of Peace,
All Might. Voiced by Kenta Miyake (known for Dagon in Jujutsu Kaisen), Dark Might challenges the heroes in a narrative set after the devastating Paranormal Liberation War depicted in the series’ sixth season.
Bones Studio, known for its work on the series and previous movies, animates the film. The first trailer dropped in January 2024 alongside the Japanese premiere announcement for August 2, 2024.
At Anime Expo 2024, attendees were treated to the first 15 minutes of the movie, heightening anticipation with glimpses of Dark Might and familiar heroes like Izuku Midoriya (voiced by Daiki Yamashita), Katsuki Bakugo (Okamoto Nobuhiko), and Shoto Todoroki (Yuki Kaji).
Tensei Okamura, renowned for directing Naruto’s “The Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow,” takes over as director from Kenji Nagasaki. The storyline revolves around a crisis aftermath where a mysterious fortress arises post-war, endangering cities and their inhabitants.
Dark Might, appearing as a savior reminiscent of All Might, poses a dire threat that prompts Deku and his comrades to go on a mission to protect civilians and confront this looming calamity.
The movie promises to expand on the series’ themes of heroism and sacrifice amidst evolving challenges, maintaining continuity with returning voice actors and production staff.
With its dual release in English dubbed and subbed versions, “My Hero Academia: You’re Next” aims to entertain audiences globally with its blend of action, suspense, and character-driven storytelling.
This latest installment not only builds upon the established lore but also introduces a compelling new chapter in the heroes’ journey, marking it as a significant event in the My Hero Academia cinematic universe.
