We have My Hero Academia Chapter 389 spoilers, and they are insane!! This chapter is called “Relief and Prayers,” and I am absolutely going to go into what was going on in the previous chapter. I was hoping that this chapter was going to be a little longer and go into more stuff, but surprisingly it is no, like the previous chapter was 11 pages, and this one is as well.
We saw that the Todoroki Family had come to the surface after the elevator stuff was not working anymore, which of course, was very convenient for the plot, but we saw that they immediately noticed that Dabi was creating his big sphere of fire from a distance.
We find out that Rei, Dabbi’s mother was able to get a ride on one of these transport robot things, and it took her immediately to where Endeavor was fighting Dabi, and when she got there, she was like activating her Ice Quirk because we know that she is the originator of this Ice Quirk, which I think they call Frost in the anime, but I am not sure if that has ever been officially confirmed in the manga.
Maybe they also said it in the Ultra Analysis Book, but I think it is only in the anime where they say that, but we have never seen her using it before, and now she is using it here to defend herself from Endeavor and Dabi’s flame but also trying to use them to cool Dabi down and extinguish him.
Rei is also somehow able to survive this long enough, although she is taking a lot of serious burns here, which I assume as she survives this sequence, she will keep for the end afterward, which I guess could be symbolic to SHoto and other family members with Dabi and Endeavor.
At the same time, Fuyumi and Natsuo show up, and they are using their Ice Quirk as well; I mean, they have to because they don’t have the Fire Quirks. They do have the Ice Quirk, which they inherited from their mother, they didn’t go the fire from Endeavor, and that is why they have to use it here to survive, just the way Rei is doing.
My Hero Academia Chapter 389 Spoilers
When this is all happening, we see that Dabi is very aware that they are there; Dabi, while he is unhinged and psychopathic and on his Death Mission at this point, only wants to take down Endeavor and Shoto defiantly doesn’t want to kill Rei, Natsuo, and Fuyumi because when he sees them, he is calling out their names,
So this is like the beginning of Dabi’s redemption; I don’t really know how you can redeem it at this point; I mean, I am really sure that there are a lot of fans in the community for Dabi, I mean, aside from his just being character, what he really is at this point; he is like barely human, he like doesn’t even have skin, he looks like a Colossal Titan.

We see Fuyumi and Natsuo trying to calm down not only with her quirks but also the words. Later we see that Dabi laughs at Endeavor, similar to the flashback that we saw of Toya laughing, and we see this vision of an alternate reality kind of thing, where Dabi grew, and he didn’t become the Dabi, and he stayed Toya, and we see Toya look like, you know if wasn’t Dabi, and we see the rest of the family around him too without Shoto.
The speed of the temperature increase is decreasing
It is kind of like Endeavor finally acknowledged him as worthy or actually his son, because all that he really saw is Toya before, was just kind of like the failed experiment, which of course, led to all of this.
That brings us to this chapter, where we see that an explosion is happening, and the HQ says that the speed of the temperature’s increase has slowed down, however still, after that, it is not sure that they can stop the explosion, this is because the temperature itself has not gone down.
I assume that this is in reference to what the Todoroki Family is doing here, all you know, acting as the Intern Fire Fighters with the Ice Quirk, but the temperature itself has not gone down as they are saying here, so there is still a ticking clock of Dabi going off like a nuke, which is the whole this here.
This is also why Endeavor is taking him to the sky to do what Iron Man did at the end of the first Avengers movie.
Later, we see Rei, Fuyumi, and Natsuo, with the help of their Ice Quirk, protecting themself against these flames, and then it cuts to Dabi’s POV. This is when Dabi looks at Endeavor and thinks that everyone is looking at him, and that is how it actually feels like. He thinks that if that is such an easy thing to do, he wonders why didn’t it happen sooner.
This is, of course, another callback to Toya and his youth; as he became more and more manic, he just wanted Endeavor to look at him and kept saying out loud that he should look at him because it was never like we talked about what didn’t see Toya, as like a son or even so much as a person anymore at that point.
The endeavor was more so just interested in Shoto, but now in an ironic twist, everyone is looking at him but for the wrong reasons.
Uraraka is still against Toga
At the same time, we see that Tiger is explaining to all the Heroes to evacuate; however, along with that, Uraraka is still fighting Toga with the help of her Twice form. With this, Tetstutetsu holds Kendo’s hand in order to make her run faster, and along with that, the Masegaki kids are in the U.A. robots, who are watching the explosion on a tablet.
With Masegaki kids, I assume they are those Kindergarten Kids or First Grade maybe, but the kids from that part of the story, where Shoto and Inasa had to make up the test because they had failed the Provisional Licence exam, the kids that were kind of hinted at it is like the next generation of the U.A. Heroes.
On the other hand, we see that Toga and Uraraka are gonna be the next big thing that the story focuses on, maybe because that still needs to be wrapped up, and it is probably gonna be happening at a similar pace to this, I suppose.
On the other hand, Tetstutetsu holding Kendo’s hand, I assume that they are gonna wind up together at the end; it was kind of set up that they are like a thing or they are going be a thing.
After that, we see that the reporter that we saw earlier a few chapters ago is now flying over the area in a helicopter and is filming everything while also remembering what Endeavor told them to watch him. At the same time, we see that the “Can’t you see it?” kid is watching it while also praying at the same time.
“Can’t you see it?” is in reference to when Endeavor was taking on the Nomu, and Endeavor still hadn’t been redeemed yet, not with the audience but with the people in the world; they were kind of lukewarm on him.
The whole Dabi scandal hadn’t been revealed yet, but he was kind of just taking over for All Might because All Might had retired, and Endeavor being the Number 2 Hero, was bumped up to Number 1. So that was like the proving moment, so this kid was like one of the main pillars in that.
We cut to the cafe in the Philippines, where we see that a woman is also praying. This was when one of the Masegaki kids explained to the rest of the people there that it was okay because they still had Five Peepee Man.
This is when we get to Shoto and Lida, who is flying through the sky with an insane speed as Shoto activates his Phosphor move.
So yeah, the Five Peepee man is what they called him in those stretches of chapters/episodes, Shoto, because he has these little dangling utility things hanging from his belt.
The chapter ends with something we were hoping that was going to happen sooner, but better late than never, Shoto and Lida are finally showing up here.
You can read the upcoming chapter on MangaPlus when it is out for the fans.
