‘My Happy Marriage’ is a slow-burn romance manga showcasing the life of Miyo Saimori. She is a mistreated daughter who is forcefully sent away to take part in the auditions and try her luck to get married to a rich guy who is the heir of one of the greatest families in Taisho-era, Japan.
The Saimori family is a distinguished family with a long history and a pedigree of special ability users. Miyo Saimori was the first-born daughter of that family. Her parents had married for political reasons.
It was a union designed to preserve this unique bloodline. Miyo Saimori’s father had a lover at that time. However, unable to go against his family’s decision, he left her and consented to the marriage. Miyo Saimori was the child conceived in that loveless marriage.
In the beginning, Miyo Saimori was truly loved, or so she was told. While her memories are fuzzy, she heard that her father was gentle and that her mother her with all her heart.
Unfortunately, Miyo Saimori’s mother died young from an illness. Then her father remarried his former loved one, and everything changed. Miyo Saimori’s stepmother despised Miyo Saimori, the daughter of the woman who had torn her and her lover apart.
Miyo Saimori’s father felt beholden to her stepmother for agreeing to the arranged marriage, so he always yielded to her. And the daughter he had with the love of his life was dearer to him.
Miyo Saimori was now nineteen, and if she were the daughter of a respectable family, she’d be at an age where she is generally expected to marry. However, she was treated like a servant, so she had no marriage prospects, and since she worked without receiving any wages, she couldn’t even leave her house.
Kouji San was the only one who looked out for Miyo Saimori. And he was the only one with whom she could converse freely. Well, this is the story of a wish for simple happiness.
Previously on My Happy Marriage Chapter 23: Recap
In My Happy Marriage Chapter 23, Miyo Saimori wonders if Danna-Sama is tired. Danna-Sama had also become short with his words, and the number of times that he sighed also seemed to have increased. Miyo Saimori wondered if she could do anything to help him out.
One thing hadn’t changed. Miyo Saimori was, as usual, tormented by her nightmares every night. Because of that, she couldn’t sleep, and she was always tired. But in her dreams, there was always someone whose hand gripped hers and pulled her toward the light.
We later saw that Hazuki San shared her story and what had happened to Miyo Saimori. Hazuki San got married when she was seventeen years old. It was a political marriage meant to strengthen the bonds between the military and ability using families.
Since Hazuki San was a child, she was told that she spoke too much or was too energetic. But she got good grades in all her classes and was able to do everything she learned. Only her cooking was disastrous, though.
Hazuki San’s partner was from a prestigious family that had produced many military men. It was a house that had servants, and Hazuki San wasn’t too worried.
The man Hazuki San married to was ten years older than her. He was not a handsome man, but he was good, kind, and sincere. And above all, she liked him. But things went hay, and she was asked for a divorce without much of a closure.
On listening to Hazuki San’s story, Miyo wondered if ever in her life she would be comfortable enough and strong enough to talk about her traumatizing life story as well.
