Starring Kim Hyun Joo and Park Hee Soon, The Bequeathed is an occult thriller series that takes place in a rural part of South Korea. The 6-episode mini-series takes its intriguing storyline from Kang Tae Kyung’s webtoon that shares the same name.
The Bequeathed revolves around Yoon Seo Ha, a woman who ends up inheriting land from her unknown uncle after his sudden death. Having believed she didn’t have any family anymore; Seo Ha ends up finding herself in the middle of strange murders and secrets that the show uncovers with each episode.
Besides Kim Hyun Joo as Yoon Seo Ha and Park Hee Soon in the role of Choi Seong Jun, the cast of Bequeathed consists of Park Byung eun in the role of Park Sang Min and Ry Kyung Soo as Kim Yeong Ho.
The Bequeathed: What Happens In The End?
The detective closes in on this mysterious woman’s location, while Seo Ha wakes up to find herself in a dark cave. A woman keeps chanting something while praying on Seo Ha’s body. Once Seo Ha’s conscious, the woman reveals that she’s Seo Ha’s aunt, Myung Hee, whom no one knew of.
The woman also claims that she was the one who killed Jae Sok and Mr. Kang all for the burial ground. Seo Ha is furious at Myung Hee for killing her husband when she could’ve just asked her or shown herself to everyone else. The woman says she did all of this for her son, Young Ha.
This confuses Seo Ha, after all, Young Ha was her father’s child and her stepbrother. Turns out the woman isn’t lying, and Seo Ha’s father and Myung Hee were involved in an incestuous relationship. Myung Hee was abandoned by her husband right after their marriage, as she had a facial deformity.
Seo Ha’s dad cared deeply about his sister, but their relationship soon took a strange turn. Seeing that Seo Ha doesn’t understand her love at all, the woman prepares to shoot her. Meanwhile, the detectives try to figure out why Myung Hee couldn’t just take the burial grounds for herself and then later give it to Young Ho legally.
Myung Hee’s patience grows thinner, and she eventually tries to kill Seo Ha, but the professor comes up with a strategy at the last moment and buys herself some time. Young Ho is beaten up while Seong Jun tries to guess who could’ve wanted to kidnap the guy.
They threaten Myung Hee and get her to reveal the location where she’s headed along with Seo Ha. Young-Ha and Seo Ha are put in the Kiln and sealed. Myung Hee hears the men trying to kill Young Ha and barges in with her gun. She is later put in the kiln along with her other family members.
The detectives finally reach Seo Ha’s location and find the whole place up in flames. Myung Hee breaks down the wall and later tries to bring Young Ha out of the fire with the help of Seo Ha.
Ending Explained
Seeing that she was now caught, Myung Hee runs into the burning building, ending her own life. The traumatic events finally end for Seo Ha, as all of the kidnapping charges against her were dropped as well.
In The Bequeathed’s end, it’s only Seo Ha and Young Ha that manage to come out alive. Now back to her usual self, Seo Ha and Young Ha no longer maintain any contact and decide to live life as strangers again.
A tale of crime and honor, bequeathed is another intense thriller series from Yeon Sang Ho. The name Bequeathed stands for the way Seo Ha had inherited the property from her dad’s brother. While Myung Hee was responsible for all of the major murders, it was those greedy villagers who started the mess.
The villagers wanted to turn the burial grounds into a golf field to increase the land’s value, but the Yoon family wasn’t going to let it happen. If only Myung-gil had stayed alive, Seo Ha wouldn’t have had to lose her husband and the peace in her life.
Myung Hee would’ve also been alive, as she had already talked to Myung Gil about transferring the land to Young Ha so that he could become a real member of the family. Myung Hee had lived all of her life hiding from people in fear of what she’d done & didn’t want her son to be bullied or made fun of because of her.
Seeing that the burial grounds were at risk of being lost from the Yoon family, Myung Hee decided to take matters into her own hands and kill those who stood in her way.
The intense cult-like scenes, filming style, and cold atmosphere make The Bequeathed a strange tale of family relations and social honor. The 6-episode occult thriller is now available to stream on Netflix.
