A new website unveiled on Wednesday introduced the upcoming musical stage play adaptation of Yu Tomofuji’s “Sacrificial Princess & the King of Beasts” (Niehime to Kemono no Ō) manga, titled “Musical: Niehime to Kemono no Ō ~the KING of BEASTS~.”
Actor Daigo Kato is set to take the lead role in this musical endeavor. The website not only featured the actor but also unveiled the musical’s talented staff along with a teaser visual.
Renowned for his work on Prince of Tennis musicals, Yukio Ueshima is taking on the roles of writing the screenplay, directing, and choreographing the musical.
Collaborating on the musical’s artistic components are Sayaka Asai from the musical group One on One, contributing as the lyricist, and Shigeru Yahata, who assumes responsibility for the musical’s music composition.
Tomofuji commenced the original manga’s serialization in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine back in 2015, concluding the series in October 2020. The manga’s 15th and final compiled volume hit shelves in January 2021, amassing a circulation of 2.1 million copies, including digital sales.
Yen Press brought the 15th volume to English readers in April 2022, providing audiences with an enchanting story where a young girl reluctantly embraces the role of the next sacrificial meal for the Beast King, unraveling a tale of love that goes beyond surface appearances.
Building on the manga’s success, a spinoff manga debuted in Hana to Yume in August 2022, accompanied by a side-story chapter in The Hana to Yume’s sister magazine in April 2022.
The anime adaptation of the manga’s first cours premiered in April 2023, followed by the second cours in July, with Crunchyroll streaming the anime globally, excluding Asia, and extending the reach of this captivating narrative.
