Isekai. It’s a term we’ve all come to know and love. Amidst the countless number of isekai anime being released, Mushoku Tensei is, no doubt, a gem in the crowd. It’s entertained readers with the light novel for a decade now, and continues its journey through the anime adaptation we were so excited for.

The Plot
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation follows Rudeus Greyrat, an unemployed 34-year-old who’s at the lowest point in his life. As with any other isekai, Rudeus is killed by truck-kun (a truck) and is reincarnated as a newborn in a world of magic and fantasy, still remembering his past life. He grabs this opportunity of a second life and sets out to never make the mistakes he made before.
The anime is set in a fantasy world where magic and mythical creatures exist. From scenic landscapes and majestic cities to dangerous dungeons and mystical areas, the world of Mushoku Tensei is detailed and visually pleasing. The world-building adds layers and a certain depth to the series.
Worth a Watch?
I cannot stress how much you should be watching Mushoku Tensei. One of the greatest isekai to be written, this series takes it slow to develop into a great read and watch. You can see the amount of effort put into the story and setting through the world-building and introduction of characters in the light novel.
The character development in Mushoku Tensei is highly praiseworthy. It’s clear that Rudeus isn’t meant to be liked from the beginning, as his past life paints him as a societal failure with numerous flaws. But, these flaws make him relatable and leave room for growth and change in his second life. A refreshing take on the isekai genre, Mushoku Tensei actually has a well-developed plot and purpose.
Humor in this anime is subjective, and this aspect of the show is where mixed feelings come in. Not following common comedy, Mushoku Tensei does include comedic moments, but some of them can be considered inappropriate. The main character’s perverted nature and the presence of pedophilic jokes may make some viewers uncomfortable.
Nonetheless, Mushoku Tensei is definitely a must-watch, especially if you’re new to isekai animes.
