Murder by the Lake, which is also called “Die Toten Von Bodensee,” is a German detective mystery thriller TV show whose 1st season started airing back in 2014 & it’s still going on. Releasing approx. 1 to 2 episodes each year. The story of Murder by the Lake revolves around two detectives, Micha Oberlander & Hannah Ziler. Micha is a German detective, while his partner Hannah is an Austrian detective.
Together, they work for the “German-Austrian Police Agency,” solving crimes and murders across both countries. Both detectives are the complete opposite in nature. While one is a hot-headed detective, the other one is a cold, emotionless detective whose only focus in life is to solve cases. Although both of them are the polar opposite of each other, it doesn’t put a hindrance in their work. The more they work, the better their relationship gets.
Upon its release, the show received a lot of appreciation, especially for the chemistry between the lead characters & the sinister ritualistic murder cases that this show tries to cover that have been very well received. Although it’s a TV show, each of its episodes is like a movie. It’s about 1hr 30 minutes long. Each episode gets released once or twice a year, and the detectives tackle & solve various mysterious murder cases.

Critics describe Murder by the Lake Season 1 as a dark, haunting detective TV show. Much of its praise comes from episode no 3, “The Sleep Walker,” episode no 4, “Till Death Do Them Part,” & episode no 6, “The Return,” as some of the best episodes of this series. Episode 1 or movie no 1, “The Celtic Mystery,” which was released on November 3, 2014, follows the two detectives, Hannah & Micha’s work on a mysterious cross-country murder case. When a fisherman is killed in an explosion leaving behind a trail of “cryptic messages” & a mysterious mask, the detectives must race against time to figure out the secret behind this mask before it’s too late.
Episode 2 “Family Issues”
Episode 2 or movie no 2, “Family Issues,” was released on March 16, 2018, and follows detective Hannah & Micha teaming up once again to solve a mysterious murder of a forester who dies in a very mysterious way. When the police arrived, they found him dead lying.
With the foam in his mouth & a bag full of cash near him, the police also found a human arm somewhere in the cabin. Soon it was revealed that the forester was someone whom Micha knew from his past & now he must go deep into his past to find the connections & solve this mysterious Murder.
Episode 13 “Soul Circle”
Episode 13 of Murder by the Lake follows detectives Hannah & Micha in a quest to solve a mythical criminal case. When a newborn child of a missing mother washes up on the shore, detectives Hannah & Micha set out on a mission to find Rita, “The Missing Mother,” & her connection with “Floric’s Tradition” & local legends.
Episode 14 “The Second Face”
Episode 14, or movie no 14, “The Second Face,” revolves around Hubert Dorset, who gets murdered during an annual dance show. Strangely a day before the Murder took place, a young girl claimed she actually saw Hubert getting killed. She claimed she had a vision of Hubert getting stabbed and killed. How could a young girl see a glimpse of a murder before it takes place and who is the killer forms the rest of the story?
