The anime adaptation of Junta Shima’s Murai in Love manga released its first main promotional video on Wednesday, revealing its October television premiere in Japan along with new cast members. The video also previews the ending theme song “Suko” by the rock band Yabai T-Shirt Ya-san. Additionally, Hōchū Ohtsuka joins the cast as the narrator.
The series will exclusively debut on the Disney+ service this fall, as previously announced. Kengo Takanashi stars as Murai, with Yōko Hikasa portraying Ayano Tanaka, and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Hitotose. Yoshiki Yamakawa directs the anime at J.C. Staff, while Susumu Yamakawa supervises and writes the scripts. Ruka Kawada handles the music composition, with Jin Aketagawa serving as sound director.
Murai in Love centers on the protagonist, Murai, an unassuming high school student who confesses his love to his teacher, Tanaka. When Tanaka rejects his advances, Murai transforms himself to emulate Tanaka’s favorite character from an otome game, going on a journey to become her ideal man.
Junta Shima serialized the manga on the Line Manga service under Kadokawa’s Gene Line label from June 2018 to June 2022. Kadokawa released seven compiled volumes of the manga. The manga also inspired a live-action series that aired on TBS from April to June 2022, comprising eight episodes.
