Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection has received its latest post-launch content update, with Capcom releasing the paid “Additional Side Story: Rudy” DLC alongside a substantial free update that introduces Royal Monsters. The new content expands the game’s story by bringing back one of the series’ most recognizable characters, Navirou, while also giving veteran players a tougher endgame challenge.
The update is available now across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Capcom has also released a new trailer showcasing both the Rudy side story and the additional gameplay features included in the free update.
Navirou returns in Rudy’s new adventure
The biggest highlight of the update is “Additional Side Story: Rudy,” a new downloadable story expansion priced at $9.99. Players who purchased the Deluxe Edition or Premium Deluxe Edition already have access to the DLC as part of their edition’s included content.
The new storyline explores the origins of Rudy, the Royal Felyne, while introducing the history of his ancestors. During the adventure, Rudy unexpectedly encounters Navirou, the legendary Felyne companion who played a central role in the original Monster Hunter Stories games.
Their journey doesn’t just focus on the returning character. Capcom confirmed that players will also face the fearsome Elder Dragon Nergigante, adding another major encounter to the expansion’s story.
Navirou’s return is likely to resonate with longtime fans, as the energetic Felyne has remained one of the franchise’s most recognizable mascots since debuting in the first Monster Hunter Stories.
Free Royal Monsters update raises the endgame challenge
Alongside the paid DLC, Capcom has launched the free Royal Monsters update for every player.
The update introduces a new Hard difficulty version of the game’s Final Battle. Players with completed save files who successfully clear this tougher encounter will unlock Royal Monster versions of nearly every monster found throughout the game.
These enhanced encounters include powerful Invasive Monsters and Calamitous Elder Dragons, giving experienced Rangers a significantly more demanding endgame experience than before.
The free update expands replayability without requiring additional purchases, offering veteran players a new reason to revisit Monster Hunter Stories 3 after completing the main campaign.
