The path to fame isn’t all rainbows and Jang Yoon Ju’s latest interview with Lee So Ra made the belief much stronger. First starting as a model in the 90s, Yoon Ju soon took an interest in acting and has since had several successful TV shows and movies to her name.
Jang Yoon Ju is best recognized for her role in her debut film Veteran, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have a successful career before it. Her swan-like charm and skilled runway walk made her one of the top models in South Korea back in the 90s.
With such popularity, it was not long before Jang Yoon Jo began being approached by TV producers and other popular directors to get her a role in their films.
Now having spent almost 3 decades in the industry, Jang Yoon Ju was called for an interview on Lee Sora’s hit talk show, Supermarket Sora. There the duo talked about various things from their first assignments to other projects that they were involved in over the years.
Sora and Yoon Ju also discussed a lesser-known industry tactic that influences young models and often ends up putting them under stress. While these are common in other places too, seeing South Korea also have such an old Hollywood mindset people came as a shock to many of the viewers of the show.
Jang Yoon Ju: The Most Successful Model and Actress From The 90s
Born and raised in Seoul, Jang Yoon Ju first started modeling when she was just 17 and didn’t know much about the fashion industry. Soon enough, her charismatic personality and photoshoots ended up crowning her as one of the best models in South Korea of her time.
Once she was older, Jang Yoon Ju was contacted by the producers behind Veteran, and she was able to debut in the movie industry with her role as Miss Bong in the crime thriller film. Jang Yoon Ju started managing both her modeling career and her television career at the same time and became a well-known figure in both of her endeavors.
Along with others like Mim Jae Wood, Han Hye Jin, and others, Jang Yoon Ju released a book called Top Model where she talks about tips and advice for those interested in beauty, makeup, and styling. While she has remained mostly in the modeling and television side of entertainment, Jang Yoon Ju also experimented with music back in the early 2000s.
Jang Yoon Ju Reveals She Was Pressured To Take Her Clothes Off
Modeling isn’t an easy task and Jang Yoon Ju’s interview with Lee Sora confirmed it. Earlier in January 2024, Jang Yoon Ju was invited to Super Market Sora, and they talked about the way they were usually pressured or even forced to take their clothes off for fashion shows or photoshoots.
Lee So Ra herself claimed that she was made to wear clothes that barely ever covered her at multiple fashion shows. While the dress was uncomfortable enough, the experience was made much more embarrassing by the fact that various other popular celebs and people from the industry were also present in these shows.
Since Jang Yoon Ju entered the industry at a young age, once she was in her twenties, she was made to be a part of various revealing photoshoots and had to model clothes that were very sheer or short. Jang Yoon Ju claimed that she was made to remove her clothes quite a lot of times, and it eventually started affecting her mentally.
Now that she is older and knows the way the fashion industry works, Jang Yoon Ju says that she considers it art and is in much more control of her mental health than before.
This comes off as a surprising revelation considering how popular Jang Yoon Ju has been in South Korea. She had one of the most successful transitions from a runway model to a television actress. Examples of Jang Yoon Ju’s work include being a judge on I Am A Model, Korea’s Next Top Model, Jang Yoon Ju’s Magic Recipe, and more.
Jang Yoon Ja plays the role of Sook Ja in the upcoming show Citizen Deok Hee. The intriguing interview with Lee So Ra also revealed many unknown facts about the duo, and this episode of Super Market Sora is available to watch on Super Market Sora’s YouTube Channel.
