The new live-action series Minami-kun ga Koibito!? based on Shungiku Uchida’s manga Minami’s Lover, has announced three additional cast members and a premiere date of July 16.
The series, which features a role-reversed plot where the boyfriend shrinks instead of the girlfriend, stars Ai Iinuma as Chiyomi and Yusei Yagi as Minami.
Additional cast members include Rena Takeda as love rival Misuzu Sagawa, Nao Yamato as Chiyomi’s friend Nami Takamura, and Yoji Iwase as Minami’s rival Etō.
Other notable cast members include Shinji Takeda, Yoshino Kimura, Mariko Kaga, Ikki Sawamura, Shigeru Moroi, and Ken Mitsuishi.
The series will air on TV Asahi and its 23 affiliated channels at 9:00 p.m. JST. Yoshikazu Okada is responsible for the script, with Tadaaki Horai, Takashi Komatsu, and others directing the series.
The original Minami’s Lover manga by Shungiku Uchida was first published in the 1980s and has seen several adaptations over the years.
It was initially serialized in Monthly Manga Garo magazine and later collected into volumes. The series was reprinted and revised in subsequent years, and a sequel manga was even published in 2012-2013.
Previous adaptations of Minami’s Lover include a 1990 television special, an 11-episode series in 1994, another series in 2004, and a fourth adaptation in 2015.
The new series continues the legacy of this beloved story with a fresh twist and a new cast, promising to capture the hearts of both old fans and new viewers.
