After the huge success of the series on Wednesday, Jenna Ortega had the huge responsibility of keeping up with the pace. The new movie by the actor has been announced, and the trailer was released on December 15, 2023.
Miller’s Girl will feature Jenna and Martin Freeman as the main characters, and the trailer hints at a very complex relationship between the two. The movie is all set to hit the theatres on 26 January 2024.
Jenna has performed tremendously in Netflix’s Wednesday series and has received love from the fans for her character as Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family.
The actress will also be back for Season 2 of the series. But Miller’s Girl has brought forth the actor’s talent, especially in the horror genre. She has done a great job playing the character of an eighteen-year-old Cairo Sweet.
The movie also features Bashir Salahuddin, Gideon Adlon, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Christine Adams. The movie is directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, and the characters of the film seem to have an unorthodox relationship, leading to more chaos.
According to the synopsis, the movie is described as
A talented young writer (Ortega) embarks on a creative odyssey when her teacher (Freeman) assigns a project that entangles them both in an increasingly complex web. As lines blur and their lives intertwine, professor and protégé must confront their darkest selves while straining to preserve their individual sense of purpose and the things they hold most dear.
The movie may mean one of the most challenging roles for Jenna, but after the release of the trailer, it could come with a little controversy.
Resemblance to the Movie The Crush
After the trailer was released to the public, many have come up showing strong resemblance of the movie with some others released earlier.
Some of the comments of the Miller’s Girl trailer on YouTube were that the trailer gives the vibes of some of the thrillers from the 90s like The Crush and Poison Ivy. After observing the dangerous element in the movie, one of the netizens wrote that ‘Obsession can be a dangerous thing’ and also praised Jenna’s performance.
Some of them also praised the cinematography and wrote that shots of the trailer looked really cool. Many of the comments were referring to the clear resemblance of the movie Crush. Some even asked if it was Crush 2.
The Crush had a similar plot where a teenage girl was obsessed with a journalist. She tries to destroy him after he refuses her sexual desires. Jenna Ortega’s Miller’s Girl also seemed to have a slight resemblance to the plot, where she is seen having a close relationship with her teacher, Freeman.
Miller’s Girl Looks Like It May Cause Controversy
The trailer has already created doubts in the minds of the viewer regarding the type and genre of the movie. Miller’s Girl’s trailer may cause controversy as Jenna’s character seems to have a negative impact, and Martin is portrayed as the unfortunate victim.
In the trailer, Cairo, played by Jenna, is seen accusing her teacher, Martin Freeman, of raping her. This has placed the job and reputation of the character Miller under tension. The trailer shows that she has done this because he turned her down after submitting a suggestive writing assignment.
The trailer shows Cairo as a crooked young woman who is trying to seduce her teacher to teach him a lesson. The movie may have had a great impact on Jenna’s career, and by agreeing to do such roles, the actor should have examined the criticism that would come from the audience.
Mixed reviews have been received from the viewers. Some really enjoyed the cinematography and praised Jenna’s talent. At the same time, some of the fans are not happy with Jenna playing such a character.
Many admitted that they felt uncomfortable watching the trailer and were disappointed with the subject matter.
Yikes! As a girl-dad, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so uncomfortable watching a trailer… which I’m guessing is exactly the point of the movie. Any film that ends its trailer with a disclaimer is going to be top tier
The film may also have significant twists that may change the views of the audience. Many of the fans are waiting for the film to be released next year.
