Mieruko-chan Chapter 55 promises more tranquility between the characters after Hana and Michiru have settled their differences. Fans eagerly anticipate this next installment following the month-long break. The author provided the best feasible resolution to the contention between the two girls.
In Chapter 54, we get a glimpse into Michiru’s tragic past when her parents perished in an automobile collision. From that fateful day forward, Michiru’s sister Ichijou devoted herself to safeguarding Michiru from harm’s way.
When Ichijou later comes to pick up Michiru from school, she is nowhere to be found. Ichijou implores their teacher Zen to reassign Michiru’s class because she desires separation between Michiru and Mieruko. However, Zen refuses due to school regulations.
Recap and Review
Ichijou threatens to withdraw Michiru from the school entirely if her demands are not met. Before Zen can respond, Ichijou storms off while frantically calling Michiru’s phone. However, Michiru is mysteriously not picking up and her location seems invisible, escalating Ichijou’s anxiety.
Just then, Mieruko enters also appearing to urgently contact Michiru, overheard speaking to their friend Julia. Ichijou looks startled to see Mieruko as Zen questions why she lingers at school.
Mieruko explains that Hana has inexplicably vanished, so she searches for her friend. Overhearing this, Ichijou shows Mieruko a disturbing photo asking if it depicts Hana. The photo reveals Hana’s face scratched up by an unknown cause.
Shocked, Mieruko looks to Ichijou to understand what happened. But Ichijou unexpectedly bursts into tears instead of responding, the reason still unclear.
An announcement calls for Hana and Michiru to report back to the school office. Hana hears it but Michiru strangely cannot.
Hana checks her phone to find no network signal, making her ponder if Mieruko feels concerned about her unexplained disappearance.
When Michiru questions why Mieruko would worry over someone like Hana, she casually brushes it off saying Miko overthinks things.
Suddenly, the ominous tentacles surrounding Michiru point aggressively at Hana. Michiru then interrogates Hana about her association with Mieruko. As usual, the oblivious Hana does not grasp what Michiru driving at.
Michiru explains she wants to become closer to Mieruko, therefore demanding Hana keep her distance.
The scene then flashes back to Michiru’s past, depicting her returning a hat to her classmate Kohane for unstated reasons.
In the flashback, Michiru is drenched in sewer water, repulsing Kohane’s family who order her away despite returning their hat. Ichijou advises Michiru that sewers are dangerous and to avoid them, but Michiru persists she just wants to retrieve the hat.
Ichijou laments that while Michiru is good-natured, others do not see her that way. Michiru’s eccentric behaviors repel people, causing them to shun her.
Spoilers and Expectations
Hoping to protect Michiru from further pain, Ichijou isolates her from other children. But this only worsens Michiru’s loneliness.
Back in the present, Ichijou tells Mieruko that Michiru is a strange child who struggles with socializing, often leading to hurt. She suspects the ominous Mushoku is now with Hana based on the disturbing photo, worried what Mushoku might do.
Michiru insists Hana keep away from Mieruko, believing she should be the one at Mieruko’s side since she cares deeply for her.
Seeing Hana and Mieruko together makes Michiru jealous of their easy friendship. Moved by Michiru’s candor, Hana breaks down crying and hugs her sympathetically.
