David Hayter, the longtime voice behind Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series, has joined the growing backlash against Sony’s decision to discontinue physical disc releases for new PlayStation games starting in 2028.
In a post shared on X, Hayter posted a photo of his extensive collection of physical games and consoles alongside a simple message directed at PlayStation:
“No disc, no buy.”
The post quickly gained traction among fans who share concerns about the future of physical game ownership and preservation.
Sony recently announced that it will stop producing physical disc versions of newly released PlayStation games beginning in 2028, citing that consumer preference has shifted heavily toward digital purchases.
Hayter later added in the comments that the collection shown in his photo represented only “a fraction of my game collection,” noting that he also owns more than 2,500 DVDs, underscoring his long-standing support for physical media.
His comments echo concerns previously raised by former Blizzard executive Mike Ybarra, game preservation advocates, and CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski, who have argued that physical releases remain important for game ownership and long-term preservation.
