Merry Christmas, directed by Sriram Raghavan, stars Katina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, is a more subtle kind of flick in his library.
Usually, Sriram movies keep the audience on a ride at the edge of their seat, and it is hard to predict what is going to happen next. But this time, the plot of the movie was very much predictable from the start. The movie picks up the speed in the second half, but the ending could have been better.
In this article, we’re going to take a look at what happened in the movie, and whether you should check it out or not. As this is an explainer, there will be some spoilers.
What went down between Maria and Albert?
After seven years, Albert returned and informed anybody who inquired that he was in Dubai at the time. He noticed a woman seated at a restaurant with her kid on Christmas Eve as he went for a stroll.
When he went to the loo, a man there asked him to inform the woman that he had to depart since he had some essential job to do. Unaware of what was going on, Albert approached the woman and informed her that the man had departed.
Albert saw that the woman had been stood up when he glanced at her face. He tried to strike up a conversation as he followed her inside the movie theater. Maria said yes when Albert wanted to walk her home.
When Albert got to her house, she gave him a drink. From the start, Albert was attracted to the woman, but he refrained from approaching her out of respect for her privacy.
Albert visited her building once more, and they had a private encounter in the lift. When Albert first arrived at Maria’s home, he was horrified to see a guy who appeared to have taken his own life sitting in the chair. His clothes were covered in blood, and he was holding a gun.
Maria informed Albert that Jerome had been experiencing a lot of mental health problems lately and was in distress. Maria requested Albert to contact the police because she was in shock.
After a while, Albert disclosed that he had spent the previous seven years in jail for the murder of his former partner. He informed Maria that he had to go since he couldn’t be there when the cops arrived.
Maria became enraged and urged Albert to leave her home right now since she was so angry. Though Albert thought he had narrowly avoided disaster, he had no idea what fate had in store for him.
Was Maria planning anything?
Merry Christmas made it quite plain from the get-go that Maria had slain her husband. For a considerable amount of time, Jerome had been abusing his daughter sexually, and he had also begun to suspect that she wasn’t his daughter.
Maria repeatedly informed Jerome that she wasn’t having an affair with anyone, but he wasn’t ready to accept anything. His doubts and fears became so great that Maria concluded that he would destroy her daughter’s life if she didn’t kill him. Maria planned everything minutely, bit by bit, and checked for all the details.
Were Maria and Albert innocent?
Because he had been there before and was familiar with the system, Albert assured Maria that he could assist her. Albert assisted Maria in setting all the evidence on fire, but things took a turn for the worse when Ronnie used Albert’s name in the police inquiry and was contacted by the lead investigator, Paresh Kaamdar.
Albert now had to ensure that his testimony matched Maria’s, as she was unaware that he had been called there. Maria knew that Albert tended to construct paper doves since he had shown her the other night. For Maria to know that he had been summoned, he created a dove and placed it on Paresh Kaamdar’s table.
What happens at the end?
Albert chooses to accept responsibility for Maria’s ultimate misfortune after realizing that she will eventually get into problems.
He admitted that he killed Jerome because he was in an affair with Maria and, in a sense, proposing to her. Maria wore the ring Albert had carried around in his pocket for the last seven long years.
Maria had another chance to live the life she had always desired when Albert was taken into custody by the police.
