‘Merciless’ Manhwa begins in the year 198X. This is when a senior intelligence first sergeant, Do Janggon, is captured while swimming through the ocean on his infiltration route.

Do Janggon is held hostage as a spy from South Korea, and his goal is to kill the Northerners. With great intelligence, strength, and willpower, he succeeds in returning back to his home country after defeating a whole lot of the North Korean armies who had captured him.

A while after, in Seoul, Lieutenant Colonel Park, Janggons’ boss, and Janggon go out for lunch. Lieutenant Colonel Park asks Janggon why he wants to stop when there is no other employee at their ‘company’ who works as well as he does, to which Janggon says that the military food has lost its flavor.

A year later, we see Janngon working at a construction site. With his strength and body, he amazes everyone around him. Though his skills were acknowledged, he couldn’t have an easy life. However, he was trying in his own way.

Janggon now had a girl whom he liked. Her name was Seong Seonah. She was born into a family with loving parents but with little money. So, as soon as she graduated from high school, she got a job at a bank and has been working until now. During his lunch breaks, he goes to the bank.

Janggon told her that he was a soldier, and he worked at a construction site near the bank, living alone with no home or family to return to. With her, and like that, he had a reason to live well. But still, he can’t live well.

The moment Janggon became an adult, he enlisted and received all kinds of special training. He survived missions of great difficulty, such as bombings, infiltrations, and assassinations. And he did his best in those jobs. But over the past year, he has felt like the things that he is best at don’t help him earn a living.

Things are now going to change for Janggon. Staff Sergeant Jo Taemoon, the successor who was deployed on an operation with Janggon, once visited Janggon. Jo Taemoon had enough qualities as a soldier, but in the end, he quit the military because of his personal temperament. He now has a job request for Janggon. A job Janggon is the best at.

Previously on Merciless Chapter 10: Recap

Chapter 10 of Merciless begins with the scene at the prison. Janggon’s friends get beaten up by the platoon leader for siding with Janggon and getting caught up in the fight.

Just as Janggon’s friends help him come out of the punishment room, the platoon leader picks up a fight to save his face in front of everyone. The fight is already over, thanks to the vice president, but all the platoon leader has to do now is beat him while acting as if nothing is wrong.

People have all gathered around and are watching as though they are watching a gladiator duel. Looking at the state Janggon is in, it is more of an execution than a duel, but everyone is looking forward to it.

Janggon is tired, and the platoon leaders know about his weakness. Though it is a cheap trick, he plans on kicking Janggon’s arms as he is injured. Janggon rages with anger as he understands the leader’s plan.

We once again got to see an immense fight, and we also got to witness Jaggon’s victory as always. Just as the fight ends, Janggon falls asleep and, after waking up, finds himself as the third platoon’s leader.
