In the previous chapter of May You Reach a Sacred Place, Vienie and Macklart are having some kind of shopping date, and they enter a lamp shop. The owner of the shop obviously got all dizzy because of Vienie’s alluring red eyes, and we see that Sir Macklart was a tad jealous of all the attention she gets because of it.
She saw that the man had a really nice collection of lamps and she was mesmerized by it. She kept pointing towards all kinds of lamps and talking cheerfully about it. Macklart asked her if she wanted a particular lamp, but Vienie looked sad at his words and dropped the idea.
The pet owner is happy to promote the parrot because it is some kind of exotic pet and tells Vienie that if she buys it, he will trim its feathers for free the first time. Vienie is confused about that trimming part, and the owner explains that the flight feathers of a bird are trimmed so they don’t run away.
We had already deduced that Vienie was not a spendthrift, but she asked Macklart if she could buy that particular bird. She also refuses the owner’s offer to trim its feathers even if it means it would fly away. She did not want a flightless and trapped bird.
