Nintendo Switch owners will soon have another arcade racing game to add to their collection. Indie developer Smokoko has announced Max Speed, a new 3D racer that launches digitally on the Nintendo Switch eShop on August 6, 2026.
Designed with an emphasis on fast-paced action rather than realistic simulation, Max Speed combines stunt-driven gameplay, colorful tracks, and local multiplayer. Players will race through winding courses filled with jumps, hazards, and environmental obstacles while competing against AI rivals or friends in split-screen mode.
Max Speed mixes high-speed racing with stunts and customization
According to the game’s official description, Max Speed challenges players to master more than just speed. Performing flips, jumps, and aerial tricks rewards racers with nitro boosts, encouraging players to use the terrain strategically while maintaining control through chaotic courses.
The game includes 14 fantasy-inspired sports cars, each of which can be upgraded and customized with different paint colors, wheels, and nitro effects. Smokoko has also confirmed 29 handcrafted tracks spread across nine different locations, with each environment featuring its own hazards, creatures, and driving challenges.
Players can experience the game through five modes: Career, Events, Season, Time Trial, and Split-Screen. Local multiplayer supports up to four players on a single Nintendo Switch, making it a party-friendly option alongside its single-player content.

Rather than focusing on realistic physics, Max Speed leans into classic arcade racing by emphasizing accessible controls, over-the-top track design, and constant action. With stunt mechanics, environmental traps, and competitive racing at its core, the title aims to deliver quick races that reward skillful driving.
Smokoko will release Max Speed digitally on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $12.99 when it launches on August 6, 2026.
