Released in the year 2009, MasterChef Australia is inspired by the worldwide famous cooking reality show franchise MasterChef. MasterChef Australia encircles the lives of contestants who love cooking and aspire to follow their dream of becoming cooking masters one day. All of the contestants become a part of MasterChef and showcase their cooking talents through numerous tasks assigned to them in each episode.
However, going through the tasks is not easy for the participants because they are judged by the judges like Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris, and Matt Preston. These judges not only judge the cooking skills of the contestants but also come up with challenging and intriguing tasks for the contestants to make them more proficient in cooking and to select the next MasterChef of the year.
Season 15 of MasterChef Australia has welcomed 18 participants this time instead of 24, and all of them have been passionately competing against each other. This season follows the theme called “Secrets & Surprises,” which aims to baffle the contestants every episode with a new surprise. Additionally, the major change in this season is that the fan-favorite chef has been returned as a host for MasterChef Australia.
MasterChef Australia Season 15: A Quick Recap
Season 15 of MasterChef Australia opened up with Jamie Oliver being the Guest judge for the next two challenges. Under the mentorship of Jamie, the contestants were tasked to cook any dish that they considered their secret weapon. The winner of the challenge got an exciting opportunity to save themselves from one elimination if they ever faced such a situation in the future. In Jamie’s second challenge, the contestants competed in two rounds, and the first two winners got a chance to compete for immunity.
While going, Jamie left some exciting flavor bombs (Dijon Mustard, Red Miso, Harrisa, and Pesto) for the contestants, which were revealed to them 15 minutes before the challenge. Cath and Melissa, who won the challenge, got a chance to become the first ones to compete in the first immunity challenge. Subsequently, when competing, Melissa, who made fig and date cake, won the immunity from the first elimination.
In week 2 of MasterChef Australia, after the devastating announcement that some of the contestants got diagnosed with covid, the rest of the contestants participated in 60 minutes challenge by judges in which they introduced nostalgic ingredients which should be used by the contestants to make a dish. For the elimination round, the contestants who scored lower had to make dishes inspired by their childhood memories.
Subsequently, the next challenge was taken over by Poh Ling Yeow, who introduced everyone to her mystery box, which contained some pantry staples and two ingredients of the contestants’ choice. The challenge was again won by Melissa, which helped her get near to the next immunity challenge. In the next episode, the contestants were challenged to make Emelia Jackson special Choux Buns. In the subsequent immunity challenge, Darren Robertson managed to get immunity from the week’s elimination.
Julie Goodwin’s seafood stew became the next challenge, in which contestants had to taste the stew and identify the ingredients. The ones who guessed incorrectly had to participate in another challenge to make a dish using the ingredients of Julie Goodwin’s seafood stew. Under the Giant Mystery Box Challenge, contestants were given 75 minutes to cook something from a very big list of ingredients.
In the next challenge, the participants who were in the bottom three recreated the Tokyo Lamington Tower cake. Subsequently, in the team challenge, the contestants were divided into two teams and were responsible for making food for 1600 people. The immunity challenge of the week challenged participants to use kitchen appliances that were there on their benches to make a dish of their choice.
