Disney’s Deadpool & Wolverine reached several important box office milestones in its third weekend, continuing its record-setting run.
The movie, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, remained at number one despite tough competition from the romantic drama It Ends with Us. Interestingly, It Ends with Us features Blake Lively, Reynolds’ wife, who also voiced Lady Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The film has earned $495 million in the U.S. and $535 million internationally, bringing its total to $1.03 billion. It is close to surpassing Joker’s $1.06 billion to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever. Domestically, it has already surpassed The Passion of the Christ’s $370 million.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Goes Past the $1 Billion Mark at the Global Box Office
Deadpool & Wolverine has outperformed past MCU hits like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($853 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 ($869 million). Only 10 MCU movies have previously made over $1 billion globally. It is now just behind movies like Captain Marvel ($1.12 billion) and Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.9 billion).
Domestically, the movie has surpassed Captain Marvel ($426 million) and Avengers: Age of Ultron ($459 million), making it the sixth-highest MCU hit in the U.S. It still needs to pass The Avengers’ $623 million to enter the top five, but this seems achievable given its strong performance and positive audience feedback.
Directed by Shawn Levy and produced with a budget of $200 million, Deadpool & Wolverine marks the debut of these characters in the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. The film is currently showing in theaters, and more updates are available on Otakukart.
