The original Manhwa, ‘Married for 120 Days’ by Jaegyum, starts with the story of Elouise Starwood. She always believed luck was on her side. Her looks were above average, filled with such grace and beauty, with such elegant composure. She always walked with the grace of a noblewoman.
She was so sure to marry into a prominent family, but reality became clearer as time went on. A beautiful wedding was out of the question when you’re from a family that can barely make ends meet. She also was raising her niece alone.
As time went on, she had to wake up from my dream of living a fairy tale life. When never in her wildest dreams she had expected, a proposal from the most affluent family in the country arrived. The best part was. However, she had met this man Marcus Hanger just the day before.
Marcus Hanger was quite fond of women. He was not interested in the family business that prospered for 300 years nor in the title of a noble that his father had been so adamant about. He was only concerned about finding his one true love.
Eventually, his father, who is also the head of the Hanger family, decided to send Marcus off to the city of Cliff, where his aunt resided. Of course, he sought to continue his romantic conquests in this new city.
Duchess Evenoah Bellona became a widow at the age of twenty-nine when her husband passed away from a disease five years ago. She had no intention of passing her wealth to another, so she chose to only converse with married men or be escorted by young gentlemen. The Duchess was the next person of interest for Marcus.
Now this is where the story actually starts. As the madman he is, he plans on getting married to then seduce the Duchess as she only meets married men. On unexpectedly meeting Elouise, he quickly offers her a contract marriage to seduce the Duchess.
Elouise was enraged that he had insulted her, but the royal diamond was worth too much money for her to reprimand him. If one of her own students had suggested getting married for the same reason, maybe she would have told her to refuse. But she honestly was really fighting for her life.
Previously on Married for 120 Days Chapter 69: Recap
In Married for 120 Days’ Chapter 69, we see that Mr. Hanger hasn’t given up and is still looking for Ellouise. He comes looking for her and eventually reaches the place where she currently lives. He meets with Abigail, who tells him that Ellouise has always been waiting for someone.
Hearing those words from Abigail, he wonders if the person for whom Ellouise is waiting could be him. He at least hopes for it to be so. After bidding goodbye to Mr. Hanger, Abigail comes in to inform Ellouise.
Ellouise was all aware of him visiting and looking for her. She is kind of sad about how gloomy she looks with a shawl on her. She was totally different from how she was a few years back when they met in Cliff. Abigail suggests Ellouise meet him and confront him before it’s too late.
Ellouise agrees and goes out to meet Mr. Hanger. She was wrong about how she thought he’d be living happily in the capital. He seemed quite daunted. Things get awkward between them, so she speaks up, saying that she is aware of the reason why he is here. She says all of this while showing the diamond to him, which kind of disappoints Mr. Hanger.
