The new season will continue the story of Gero, the poison-wielding assassin, as he navigates love, family expectations, and plenty of hilarious romantic mishaps.

From Hit Manga to Breakout Spring 2026 Anime

MARRIAGETOXIN began as a web manga written by Joumyaku and illustrated by Mizuki Yoda. It has been serialized on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ since April 2022 and has grown to around 17 collected volumes in Japan. The English version is published by Viz Media, making the series accessible to readers worldwide.

The anime adaptation was produced by Bones Film, a studio under Studio Bones, which is known for hit series like Fullmetal Alchemist and My Hero Academia. Premiering in Spring 2026, MARRIAGETOXIN quickly stood out by blending exciting shonen action with an awkward but heartfelt romantic comedy, earning praise from anime fans.

The Story: An Assassin’s Search for Love

MARRIAGETOXIN follows Hikaru Gero, the heir to the powerful Poison Clan, one of five legendary assassin families. To protect his younger sister from an arranged marriage meant to continue the family bloodline, Gero decides he must find a wife himself.

His plan takes an unexpected turn when he meets Mei Kinosaki, a talented marriage con artist who is also the target of one of his assassination missions. Instead of becoming enemies, the two form an unlikely partnership. As Mei helps Gero learn how to date and find love, the series mixes action-packed missions with awkward romantic moments and plenty of comedy.

Returning Cast and Staff for MARRIAGETOXIN Season 2

MARRIAGETOXIN Season 2 will bring back the same creative team that worked on the first season. Motonobu Hori returns as director, while Kimiko Ueno is once again in charge of the series composition and scripts. Kohei Tokuoka continues as character designer and chief animation director, with Yurika Sako serving as sub-character designer and Toshiki Amata as art director. The music will once again be composed by Taisei Iwasaki and Yuma Yamaguchi, while SANZIGEN Inc. returns to handle the series’ 3DCG animation.

The main voice cast is also returning. Haruki Ishiya will reprise his role as Hikaru Gero, and Shion Wakayama is back as Mei Kinosaki, bringing the fan-favorite duo back together for the anime’s second season.

Why MARRIAGETOXIN Became a Fan Favorite

One of the biggest reasons MARRIAGETOXIN stood out during the Spring 2026 anime season was its unique mix of action and romantic comedy. Director Motonobu Hori revealed in an interview that he drew inspiration from the Indian blockbuster RRR when creating the anime’s energetic fight scenes.

Rather than copying other shonen series, Hori said he wanted to recreate the excitement and memorable feel of classic action anime. That approach helped MARRIAGETOXIN deliver fast-paced battles, strong comedic timing, and heartfelt character moments, making it one of the season’s standout new anime.

What to Expect in MARRIAGETOXIN Season 2

MARRIAGETOXIN Season 2 has plenty of story left to adapt, as the manga continues well beyond the events of the first season. When the anime returns in January 2027, fans can expect more action, romance, and hilarious moments as Gero’s journey continues. In the meantime, Season 1 is available to stream on Crunchyroll, giving both new and returning viewers the perfect chance to catch up before the next chapter begins.
