MAMAMOO, BTS, And More Received Certifications From RIAJ

Certifications From RIAJ

RIAJ had announced certifications for many Korean pop idols and idol groups around the year 2021. The RIAJ or the Recording Industry Association of Japan has always played a major role in expanding and developing the culture of music in Japan. It is the authority that awards certification to music’s both physical as well as downloaded sales. Recently, It had implemented a new system of certification in early 2020, which identified songs that were to be certified for streaming.

According to the new system, songs that have reached around 30 million streams are certified as Silver, songs that reach 50 million streams are certified as Gold, songs that reach around 100 million streams are certified as Platinum, and the songs that have around 500 million streams are certified as Diamond. This new system definitely brought a new perspective to the promotion of music.

Fans were extremely excited to see if their favorite songs and artists had made it into the list of RIAJ and received a certification. Many worldwide famous artists like the BTS, TWICE, IKON, and many more were also seen receiving certifications by the Recording Industry Association of Japan, and this did not come as a surprise to their fans. And one can’t forget that the certification received by the idols is mostly because of their highly devoted fan base. Many Korean groups have received certification from the RIAJ since the new system came out. The platforms that provide the service of streaming that are to be added are Amazon music limited, apple music, Google Play Music, HMVmusic powered by KKBOX, KKBOX, LINE MUSIC, Rakuten Music, RecMusic, Spotify, and others.

K-Pop Groups That Received The Certifications From The RIAJ

Here is a list of all the groups that have received a certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan. The list may not contain all the groups. However, it contains some of the prominent idol groups who received the certification.

1. NiziU

NiziU is a girl group that was formed by JYP Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment Japan. It is a Japanese girl group consisting of nine members: Mako, Rio, Maya, Riku, Ayaka, Mayuka, Rima, Miihi, and Nina. The Group Debuted at the end of the year 2020 with their single ‘Step and a Step’. The girl group has since received many certifications from RIAJ, but they received around five certifications in the year 2021. They received a Gold certification for the song  ‘Take A Picture’ and one Gold for the song ‘Poppin Shakin’. The group has also received two silver and one gold for the songs ‘Beyond The Rainbow, Boom Boom Boom, and Baby I’m a Star,’ respectively.

2. MAMAMOO

The iconic South Korean girl group consists of four of the most popular members: Solar, Moonbyul, Hwasa, and Wheein have been a favorite of the people for a long time. The group is known for its bold and confident style. The group has received only one certification, and that too is a gold certification from the RIAJ for their song ‘Hip’. The song came out in the year 2019 and was the lead single of the album, ‘Reality in Black’. The track was extremely popular in Korea and even reached japan’s Hot 100 Chart. MAMAMOO has released many great singles such as ‘Girl Crush’, ‘Hello,’ and many other amazing songs.

3. BIGBANG

One of the most influential Korean idol groups, BIGBANG, consists of four members: G-Dragon, T.O.P, Daesung, and Taeyang (former member Seungri). The South Korean boy group is also known as ‘Kings of Pop’ and have released many hit songs such as Fantastic baby, Bang Bang Bang, and many more. BIGBANG received two of its certifications from RIAJ. The first certification they received was for the song ‘Bang Bang Bang’, and the second they received was for the song ‘Fantastic Baby’. Both were silver certifications. The BIGBANG has an incredible fan base and is known for releasing experimental music. The group has released a lot of different genres of music and has contributed majorly to the Korean music industry.

4. SEVENTEEN

SEVENTEEN is a South Korean idol group that consists of thirteen members: S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino. The group has been seen releasing songs that make it to the top charted lists. The group has received four RIAJ certifications altogether. They received gold certification for ‘We make you’ and received platinum certification for the songs ‘your choice,’ ‘Attacca,’ and ’24H’.

5. ITZY

Formed under JYP Entertainment, ITZY is a South Korean idol girl group that has achieved success in a very less time. It consists of members: Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna. The girl group has released amazing hits such as ‘Mafia,’ ‘Loco,’ and many other songs. They have seen an incredible increase in their fan base and are a familiar name in the household of Korea. The girl group has recently achieved four certifications from the Recording Industry Association of Japan for songs ‘Not Shy,’ ‘Dalla Dalla,’ ‘Icy,’ and ‘Wannabe’.

6. BlackPink

Blackpink is a popular South Korean girl group that is also known for its collaboration with international artists. The group has contributed to expanding Korean music to other parts of the world.  The girl group consists of four members: Lisa, Jisoo, Rose, and Jennie. They are known for their hit songs, such as Boombayah. As if it’s your last, Kill this love, ice cream, and many others. They had even done a collab with Selena Gomez for the song ‘Ice Cream’. As of now, the girl group has received all together eight RIAJ certifications for their songs. They received four silver certifications for the songs’ Boombayah’, ‘As if it’s your last,’ ‘Ice Cream,’ ‘Forever Young’ and four gold for the songs’ Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,’ ‘Kill this love,’ ‘How you like that,’ ‘Lovesick girls,’ and ‘Sour Candy’.

7. BTS

BTS or the Bangtan boys are the most renowned k-pop artists in the whole world right now. There is No one who doesn’t know about their existence and their impact on the music industry. It is safe to say that the Korean music industry has been seen by the world because of the group under HYBE Entertainment. The BTS has given us many top charted songs such as Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Mic Drop, Anpanman, Savage Love, Life Goes On, and many more songs. It is a group that has received the most certifications from the Recording Industry Association of Japan.

The boy group has had many collaborations with many international artists such as Halsey, Coldplay, Megan Thee Stallion, Jason Derulo, Ed Sheeran, and many more. BTS has received many gold certifications for their incredible songs such as ‘I need you,’ ‘for you,’ ‘run,’ ‘idol,’ ‘ON,’ ‘Your eyes tell,’ ‘Dynamite,’ ‘Life Goes On,’ ‘Film Out,’ ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to dance’. The group has also received many Platinum and silver certifications as well.

8. TWICE

The group that has the most certifications and is at the top is TWICE. It is also one of the most famous and talented k-pop idol groups. From amazing singing to great dance performances, the group has seen the most streamed singles. TWICE, a South Korean girl group is formed by JYP Entertainment. The group is composed of nine incredibly talented members: Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. The group is known for many of its hit songs. It has recently released a song called ‘The feels’ that has gone viral on many social media apps, making the fans crazy as ever.

The popular girl group has released many hit singles such as ‘Likey’, ‘Feel special,’ ‘Scientist,’ ‘Alcohol-free,’ ‘TT,’ and many other songs. The group has received countless Gold, Platinum, and Silver certifications. They received gold certifications for songs like ‘TT,’ ‘Likey,’ ‘What is love?,’ ‘Fancy,’ ‘Doughnut,’ ‘the feels,’ and many more.

Many Korean idol groups have received certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan. The new system has been recently adopted, but it has seen enormous success. Because of the new system adopted by the RIAJ, now the association can promote music to be streamed online and not bought or downloaded. Since it is also in charge of promotion and developing music, recently, many other k-pop groups such as ENHYPEN have also received platinum certification for their Japanese debut single ‘Border: Transient’ and SHINee have received gold for their album ‘Superstar’.
