Comic-Con International recently revealed the winners of this year’s Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards.
One of the standout accolades went to Maki Fujiwara’s My Picture Diary, translated by Ryan Holmberg, which clinched the award for Best U.S. Edition of International Material Asia.
This category featured strong competition, including nominations for Shin’ichi Sakamoto’s #DRCL midnight children, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Goodbye, Eri, Kyoko Okazaki’s River’s Edge, and Mokumokuren’s The Summer Hikaru Died.
In addition to Fujiwara’s win, Sana Takeda was recognized as the Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior Art) for her exceptional work on The Night Eaters: Her Little Reapers and Monstress.
Mokumokuren’s The Summer Hikaru Died, translated by Ajani Oloye, was also in the running for Best Writer/Artist.
However, the award went to Daniel Warren Johnson for his work on Transformers, which also garnered the Best Continuing Series award.
In the Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award category, Blood Blade’s Oma Sei was nominated but was ultimately outshined by Oliver Bly’s The Mushroom Knight.
Shin’ichi Sakamoto’s #DRCL midnight children and Gou Tanabe’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth were both contenders for Best Adaptation from Another Medium, but Richard Adams, James Sturm, and Joe Sutphin’s Watership Down emerged victorious.
In humor, Teki Yatsuda’s The Yakuza’s Bias was a nominee for Best Humor Publication but lost to It’s Jeff: The Jeff-Verse #1.
The Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun First Stall Box Set, though a contender for Best Publication Design, did not win, as the award went to the boxed set of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Ichigo Takano’s Orange Complete Series Box Set was nominated for Best Graphic Album Reprint but had to share the spotlight with Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons and Hip Hop Family Tree: The Omnibus.
