The cast of The Gilded Age is growing rapidly. HBO announced in June that four new actors would join Season 3 of the show. Now, Variety reports that eight more actors are joining the cast. Among them is Leslie Uggams, known for her roles in Deadpool and Wolverine.
Uggams will play a member of the Black elite community in Newport. HBO has not yet announced when the new season will be released.
Uggams will portray Mrs. Ernestine Brown, who is a friend of Elizabeth Kirkland, played by Phylicia Rashad. Other new cast members include Bill Camp, Merritt Wever, LisaGay Hamilton, Paul Alexander Nolan, Hattie Morahan, Andrea Martin, and Jessica Frances Dukes.
In Season 3, “The Gilded Age” Approaches the Suffragette Era
Wever will play Bertha’s estranged sister, expanding the Russells’ story. HBO has not revealed the full details of their relationship, but Wever’s character will impact the Russell family during a significant time. Camp will play JP Morgan, the famous banker, and will clash with George Russell regarding the future of the railroad industry.
Hamilton’s character, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, will influence Peggy, played by Denée Benton, to advocate for Black women’s voting rights. Dukes will play Athena Trumbo, Dorothy’s supportive cousin, who encourages Peggy’s writing career.
Season 3 will also introduce some supernatural elements. Andrea Martin will play Madame Dashkova, a medium who claims she can talk to the dead. Hattie Morahan will be Lady Sarah Vere, who disapproves of the Russells.
Paul Alexander Nolan will portray Alfred Merrick, a businessman who represents old money and will be invited to a dinner by the Russells to consider a business deal.
With such a diverse and talented cast, Season 3 of The Gilded Age is set to be exciting. HBO has yet to announce the release date, but you can watch the first two seasons on Max while waiting.
