Maisie Williams reimagined the iconic silhouette of French fashion designer Christian Dior.
On Monday, 26-year-old Game of Thrones alum, Maisie Williams, made a striking entrance at the premiere of her latest series, The New Look. Williams honored the inspiration behind the series, Christian Dior, by donning the designer’s iconic “New Look” style. This included a defined waist, delicately curved shoulders, and a billowing skirt.
Her ensemble featured a black leather dress with a dramatic shawl effect cascading over her shoulders and cinching at the waist. The midi-length A-line skirt added further volume and flair to her ensemble.
The actress completed her monochromatic ensemble with black tights, sheer pleated gloves, velvet pointed-toe heels, and a leather beret.
Williams opted for minimal jewelry, wearing only a pair of dangling diamond earrings. Her makeup was equally understated, featuring a soft bronze eyeshadow and deep maroon matte lipstick.
Williams wasn’t the sole star to grace the premiere in a striking hat. Her co-stars Juliette Binoche and Todd A. Kessler also made heads turn with their statement headpieces. Kessler, 52, sported a sleek black bowler hat, while Binoche, 59, opted for a wide-brim cartwheel hat, complemented by long black leather gloves akin to Williams’.
Both actresses paid homage to the essence of the “New Look.” Binoche’s ensemble featured rounded shoulders reminiscent of a shawl, echoing the iconic silhouette, albeit in a maxi-length and form-fitting dress, subtly deviating from the brand’s traditional style.
Glenn Close made a grand entrance in another iconic Dior silhouette. The 76-year-old actress donned a structured black blazer paired with a full pleated skirt, accessorized with her own black leather gloves.
The ensemble cast shines in the upcoming AppleTV+ series, depicting the journey of iconic designers Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Pierre Balmain, and Cristóbal Balenciaga as they revolutionize fashion during World War II. Williams takes on the role of Christian Dior’s younger sister, Catherine, while Malkovich portrays Lucien Lelong.
Williams disclosed in a recent interview that she underwent a transformative journey for her role, including shaving her head and shedding approximately 25 pounds. The weight loss process was closely monitored by a team of medical experts who regularly monitored her heart rate and conducted blood tests.
She also revealed that the physical changes affected her sleep patterns, causing her to experience nightmares that resonated with the character of Catherine, a WWII French resistance fighter.
“The New Look” premieres on Wednesday, Feb. 14, exclusively on AppleTV+.
