The new film, Puella Magi Madoka Magica -Walpurgisnacht Rising-, was set to release in Winter 2024 but has now been delayed to Winter 2025 because of production issues.
Despite the delay, fans can expect more details about the film during the Aniplex Online Fest 2024, which will be streamed live in English on September 16.
The team behind the previous film, Rebellion, will be returning for Walpurgisnacht Rising. Akiyuki Shimbo will be the chief director, while Yukihiro Miyamoto will direct the film.
Gen Urobuchi from Nitroplus will write the script, and aokiume will handle character designs. Junichiro Taniguchi will adapt these designs for animation, Yuki Kajiura will compose the music, and Gekidan Inu Curry will design the Witches’ Spaces.
The original voice cast will also reprise their roles. If you want to catch up on the series, both the original 2011 anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the 2020 spin-off Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story are available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
The original series tells the story of Madoka Kaname, an eighth grader with an ordinary life, who experiences a magical encounter that could change her future and lead to new adventures in the magical girl world.
