“Life can change in an instant,” Ban, 51, shared on Instagram on December 30. “While skiing on a sunny day in Aspen with my family, an accident altered everything.”
Ban revealed that the accident happened when she caught a ski tip, causing her to face-plant on the mountain. Initially, the injury seemed minor, thanks to her helmet, and she managed to ski down. Ban only sought medical attention from ski patrol to rule out a concussion.
Although she had a headache, Ban assumed it would subside after lunch. However, a paramedic urged her to visit the hospital for a CAT scan, a decision that proved lifesaving.
“I went with [partner] Jett [Kain] in a taxi, and within 30 minutes, they informed us of a brain bleed that required immediate airlifting to a trauma hospital,” she wrote. “The last thing I recall was being intubated before waking up post-surgery with Jett beside me.”
The surgery, known as a craniotomy, involves removing a portion of the skull to access the brain, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
Ban posted photos documenting her ordeal, including a hospital bed selfie showcasing her shaved head and surgical scar. Other images featured her on the mountain in full ski gear, complete with a helmet and goggles.
“There’s a long recovery road ahead, but I’m a survivor,” she stated. “I’m grateful to ski patrol, my medical team, and the love and support from family and friends. GOD IS GOOD 🙏🏼 Blessed to see the new year.”
Dorothy Wang, her Bling Empire costar, expressed her support in the comments: “Omg Lynn, I have chills. So happy you’re okay and surrounded by love. Sending all my love and healing wishes. ♥️”
Actress Debi Mazar added her encouragement: “Whoa!! Omg, Lynn!!! Sorry, this happened! The haircut and scar are oddly hot 🔥 You’re a warrior—wishing you a swift recovery ❤️🩹.”
Ban’s journey serves as a powerful reminder of resilience and gratitude amid life’s unforeseen challenges.
