During the production of their latest album, Loveless took on a part-time role at Secret Studio in the city, which also served as the filming location of their new music video. Loveless expressed a desire to incorporate the elements inspired by Bob Fosse into the visual, although they acknowledged not possessing Fosse’s level of talent.
However, they believed that the video effectively conveyed a sense of bleak frustration. Filming took place from 10 p.m. to around 3 a.m. at Secret Studio, and by the end of the process, everyone involved felt a bit like lunatics, which Loveless felt was in line with the atmosphere the song required.
Who is Lydia Loveless?
Lydia Loveless is an Ohio-born singer and songwriter known for her contribution to the alternative country genre. Hailing from Columbus, Loveless infuses her music with elements of pop, classic country, honky tonk, and punk rock. In 2004, she was a member of the four-person new wave pop band called ‘Carson Drew,’ which included her father and sisters. Loveless played bass in the band, which unfortunately disbanded in 2007.
During a performance in Cincinnati, Loveless had the opportunity to meet a producer David Rhodes Brown, who was a member of the band 500 Miles to Memphis. This encounter eventually led to Brown producing Loveless’ debut album, “The Only Man,” which was released in 2010. However, Loveless expressed dissatisfaction with the polished production of the album. Notably, Loveless was just 15 years old when she recorded this debut record.
In 2012, Loveless inked a deal with Bloodshot and embarked on a mission to create a rawer and glitter album. This led to the release of “Indestructible Machine,” featuring songs that explored themes such as her frustrations with her hometown, experiences with drinking, battles with depression, and even a humourous track recounting an encounter with a stranger who claimed to be Steve Earle but was not in fact a singer of Copperhead Road.
Loveless began climbing the success stairs.
Following her previous success, Loveless revealed “Boy Crazy,” an EP in 2013. The release received acclaim, with Mark Deming of AllMusic praising it and asserting that the album served as evidence of Loveless’s immense talent. In February 2014, Loveless dropped in her third full-length record titled “Somewhere Else” on Bloodshed, which was a dark “poppy” vibe.
Loveless contributed her vocal prowess to the end credits song, titled “One Voice,” for the film “A Dog Named Gucci.” The song also features the voices of renowned artists such as Aimee Mann, Norah Jones, Susanna Hoffs, Brian May, Neko Case, and Kathryn Calder. The production of the song was handled by Dean Falcone, who not only produced it but also composed the score for the film.
On September 25, 2020, Loveless independently released her fourth studio album, titled “Daughter,” under her own record label, Honey, You’re Gonna Be Late.
