Lisa Ann Walter discovered the secrets of her ancestors
Since they first met while working in the cherished 1998 film, Lisa Ann Walter and Elaine Hendrix have managed to support each other through the ups and downs of their careers, the joys of welcoming new family members, and hectic schedules. They have come to realize that their friendship might not have been a mere coincidence- it could have been destined to happen.
At the age of 60, Lisa Ann Walter takes the spotlight in the first episode of Ancestry’s fresh YouTube series called unFamiliar. In this episode, she explores the places in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, where her ancestors once lived, accompanied by her sons, Jordan, Spencer, and Simon. She embarked on this journey with the goal of delving deeper into her family’s history beyond the stories passed down through generations.
Walter clarifies that she was primarily intrigued by discovering who her ancestors were and gaining insights into their daily lives. She has a strong interest in history, so she wanted to uncover the details of how they went about their lives, what kind of work they did, and those sorts of things. Walter ended up learning a great deal about that, and there were even surprising revelations about her other great-grandmother that she had not known previously.
Lisa Ann Walter’s shocking discovery
During the filming of the episode, Lisa Ann Walter made another fascinating discovery: her lifelong friend Elaine Hendrix also had ancestors who resided on the same street. In the early 1900s, Hendrix’s great-grandparents lived just a few blocks away from Walter’s great-grandparents on Elizabeth Street in New York City.
The 52-year-old Hendrix surprised Walter with this revelation during their time on the unfamiliar show. Hendrix explains to PEOPLE that she was aware that her mom’s side of the family was Italian and had immigrated through New York. Many of her relatives were born and raised in New York, and during that era, it was a closely-knit, small community. All the Italians lived in a particular neighborhood.
During their journey into the past, which Lisa Ann Walter acknowledged was an emotional one for her, the star of Abbott Elementary and Elaine Hendrix indulged in a bit of mischief by sneaking into one of the buildings associated with their ancestral investigation. According to Walter, this bold and caring act is simply characteristic of Elaine.
However, Lisa Ann Walter appreciates this adventurous side of her friend. At the same time, Elaine Hendrix values Walter’s warmth and friendliness.
