The family of an 11-year-old kid has filed a lawsuit against LaMelo Ball, the star of the Charlotte Hornets, claiming that the point guard shattered his foot during an incident at the team’s annual Purple and Teal Day in October of last year.
Tamaria McRae claims that her son Angell Joseph approached Ball to ask for an autograph and to show his respect for the athlete. Ball, however, is said to have neglected to sign the autograph before driving off and running Joseph over, breaking his foot in the process.
McRae described witnessing her son’s sudden fall to the ground, initially thinking he had dropped something, only to realize he was in pain due to the incident involving Ball.
Another Sue Is Against The Charlotte Hornets
The family’s lawyer, Cameron DeBrun, emphasized the impact of the incident on Joseph, stating, “This is his hero, his idol, and he got run over by him.”
Ball’s name and insurance details were absent from the police record, which prevented the family from submitting an insurance claim to pay for the hospital costs.
The family has also accused the Charlotte Hornets in the complaint, claiming that the club did not put in place sufficient safety precautions to safeguard spectators close to the players.
Ball played 22 games in his final season with the Hornets before having his season ended due to a right ankle injury. He demonstrated his skill on the court by averaging 23.9 points and 8.0 assists per game despite the injury.
