What is Last Call: When a Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York’s plot?
We get introduced at the beginning of the story to a well-dressed, middle-aged entrepreneur who hails from Massachusetts and goes by the name of Thomas Mulcahy but now lives in New York City.
Then he stops by The Townhouse, which seems to be an exclusive gay pub on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Later we see how Mulcahy leaves The Townhouse with a different guy.
Next up, we meet his daughter, who soon recalls Mulcahy as a dedicated father who loved old Hollywood glitter and boisterous Broadway shows like “La Cage Aux Folles.”
But then we learn that Mulcahy’s body was found mutilated a few days later. Peter Anderson, a middle-aged male, experiences the same outcome shortly after. We saw how Anderson, too, met a man at The Townhouse in the same way Mulcahy did.
The LGBT community comes to be very alarmed and indignant. The Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project, a New York-based anti-LGBT hate crime organization, gets engaged in the case after a while.
Then we see how former Anti-Violence Project members named Matt Foreman, Bea Hanson, and David Wertheimer are seen discussing how the New York City police department failed to handle these killings with the urgency they required in the documentary.
We get to learn how, for the series, a former NYPD cop who is now openly gay briefly spoke about working in an environment where being gay wasn’t safe. He recalled hearing a fellow cop refer to gay police officers as “fuckin’ faggots” and threaten to harm them.
Then there was a third assassination, although this time, the victim of the crime wasn’t on the Upper East Side, as previously reported. We meet Anthony Marrero, a gay sexual worker who routinely utilized the Port Authority bus stop, too, who died in the same manner as Mulcahy and Anderson.
According to his brother, Marrero was a person of color who kept secrets. Then there are more homicides. Foreman and Hanson discussed their attempts to maintain neighborhood safety.
