The Los Angeles Lakers faced a setback in their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday when the match was called off due to Anthony Davis’s worsening left eye injury.
The incident occurred late in the first quarter, as Davis scored off an offensive rebound and was accidentally struck in the face by Wolves forward Kyle Anderson. Davis immediately fell to the floor, clutching his face, with the Lakers leading 35-30 with just 24.2 seconds remaining in the quarter.
After an assessment in the locker room, Anthony Davis did not return to the game. However, there is hope, according to an ESPN reporter, that Davis will be back in action for the Lakers’ next game on Tuesday.
What Is Anthony Davis Injury?
The Lakers, already missing LeBron James due to flu-like symptoms, struggled in the second quarter against the Wolves, losing 46-27 without Davis on the court. This injury setback for Davis comes after a corneal abrasion to his left eye during the Lakers’ previous game against the Golden State Warriors on March 16.
In that game, Lakers player Trayce Jackson-Davis inadvertently hit Anthony Davis in the eye, forcing him to leave early. Davis’s eyelid swelled shut, affecting his vision, and required medical attention.
Reflecting on the injury, Anthony Davis shared, “I just couldn’t see, the corneal abrasion was actually right in the middle of my eye. It wasn’t like off to the side. So anytime I looked it was blurry. My eye was swollen. I thought my eye was like, [torn] open. But it wasn’t. It kept watering. It just felt like sand was in my eye.”
The Lakers, currently the Western Conference’s eighth seed, have three games remaining in the regular season. Their next challenge will be against the Golden State Warriors, the No. 10 team in the West, on Tuesday, where they hope to see Anthony Davis back on the court.
