Kowloon Generic Romance Chapter 55: Recap
Previously, Miyuki, who had passed out in the pleasure district, was now in the cabaret club recovering. Kujirai, who was there to inspect the damage caused by the collapse, catches sight of him.
The chapter starts with Kujirai questioning Rose, the cabaret girl, about the frequent blackouts, before moving on to Miyuki, mistaking him for the club’s owner. Surprised, he asked Kujirai if she didn’t recognize him, but Kujirai was clueless about what he meant. So he shows her his tongue, causing her to yell Hebinuma Miyuki!
Her yelling led Rose to scold her for openly disclosing someone’s identity in a place like this (Rose did know who Miyuki was but kept quiet about it). However, Miyuki said he didn’t mind, as they were already acquainted. And that he wanted to meet Kujirai sometime soon, to which Kujirai replied that she, too, wanted to ask him a few things.
Rose was relieved at this sudden development as she hesitated to allow Miyuki to leave alone. After all, his face looked ashen! However, Miyuki denied that by saying it was like that, to begin with… Kujirai noted that the current him gave a different impression than when they first met.
And so they both left the club together. Kujirai is all tense, so Miyuki goes, “I won’t bite, you know.” Miyuki leads the way, but Kujirai tells him they need to change the route, as the one he was about to take was blocked due to the collapse the other day. Miyuki had no idea, as he was in Hong Kong when it happened. He asked Kujirai if there were any victims, to which she responded that, fortunately, no one got hurt.
Then, a familiar figure comes their way! It was Yoochin, the bunny girl from chapter 40, who worked at the karaoke bar Kudo and Kujirai went to. Approaching them, Yoochin said that she had taken a day off due to water leakage caused by the collapse. She asks Kujirai to come and grab a drink or two when everything returns to normal. She also flirtily invites Miyuki. But he doesn’t seem interested. Along the way, Kujirai strikes up casual conversations with locals.
Once they reached Hebinuma Pharmaceutical. Miyuki’s secretary greets them and asks if they have an appointment booked. However, when Miyuki put his hair up, she instantly recognized that this was her boss. Miyuki tells her to prepare a drink for Kujirai and look up some popular confectioneries in Kowloon.
In Miyuki’s office, Kujirai asks Miyuki about Zirconians. She says that the reason he wanted to meet her must be because she is one of them. Miyuki is stunned at this and lets out a creepy laugh. He was impressed with her deduction skills. He asked her how she found out about Zirconians. She replied that a friend read about it online and said Hebinuma Pharmaceuticals is involved too.
Miyuki asks her if her memory has improved since their first counseling session. Kujirai says she was sure her memory wouldn’t return because it never existed in the first place – she was a different person. Miyuki is impressed at her outlook on the situation. Kujirai says she’s still slightly lost and conflicted sometimes, but she decided to become her “absolute self.”
Others may compare her to Kujirai-B, but still, there are things that only she can choose. Miyuki asks who would compare her to Kujirai-B, and Kujirai brings up Kudou. Miyuki is surprised that Kudo knew the original Kujirai- that would mean the current Kudou is the original one and not a clone as he expected.
It’s not surprising to him that “real” people can live in Kowloon, just like he and Gwen could enter Kowloon with no problem, but what he is puzzled about is that Kudou can accept residing by the side of a lookalike of his former lover who isn’t the person he loved in the past. Miyuki was sure this would be extremely painful to anyone, so he was trying to put his father in that situation. He can’t understand why Kudou would choose this willingly.
Kujirai crashes his train of thought by saying that despite this, she still has a friend who recognizes her for who she is. Everyone in Kowloon sees her as her person. So Miyuki doesn’t see any further problems in her life. Pretty much everyone, including herself, accepts her, so her search for her “absolute self” should be complete by now, right?
He goes on to say that establishing your own identity is difficult – even if you feel confident in yourself, you still need to be validated by others to feel satisfied, and vice versa. And what Kujirai needs to become her “absolute self” must be accepted by Kudou. But Miyuki remembers he still didn’t answer her initial question. Is she a Zirconian? No. And she doesn’t seem to be a clone, either. He doesn’t know what exactly she is but ultimately calls her “a generic existence.”
