Kodansha Game Creators’ Lab has announced a new indie game based on the manga The Fable by Katsuhisa Minami.
Titled The Fable: Manga Build Roguelike, the game is being developed by Mono Entertainment. It combines roguelike gameplay with deck-building elements and is inspired by scenes from the original manga.
In the game, players arrange panels on a page to create their own manga for battles. Each panel, dealt randomly each turn, has different effects like attacking, moving, or defending.
These panels activate in the order they appear in the manga, so players need to strategically choose and place them to create effective tactics and defeat enemies.
The manga The Fable, published in English by Kodansha USA, follows a hitman known as The Fable who live a peaceful life without killing anyone.
This unusual challenge adds a mix of humor and action as he adapts to his new life. Serialized from 2014 to 2019, The Fable has 22 volumes and won the Best General Manga award in 2017.
It also inspired two live-action films and a 2023 TV anime. The sequel manga, The Fable: The Second Contact, ran from 2021 to 2023 and has nine volumes.
