The WWE King and Queen of the Ring tournament has been struck by a wave of injuries! Several wrestlers who were slated to compete have been forced to withdraw.
It all started with Drew McIntyre, who couldn’t compete due to an elbow injury. Asuka was also sidelined by an injury before her match and replaced by Dakota Kai.
Advanced Knowledge of Injuries
On SmackDown, Bobby Lashley was replaced by Angelo Dawkins after suffering an injury. Zelina Vega was the latest to be sidelined, missing out on another chance to win the tournament.
According to wrestling news, WWE was aware of Bobby Lashley and Zelina Vega’s injuries well before they were announced. In Zelina Vega’s case, those involved in her opponent’s match knew about the change almost a week in advance.
Despite the setbacks, the King and Queen of the Ring tournament continues tonight on SmackDown with quarterfinal matches.
The winners will advance to the semifinals, with Jey Uso facing Gunther on the men’s side and Lyra Valkyria taking on IYO Sky on the women’s side. The champions will be crowned at the King and Queen of the Ring pay-per-view event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 25th.
