Takagi and Nishikata are classmates who sit next to each other in class. Takagi enjoys teasing Nishikata and often plays pranks on him. Nishikata, however, is determined to get back at Takagi and tries to find ways to outsmart her.
Despite his efforts, Takagi always seems to be one step ahead, and Nishikata struggles to come up with clever comebacks. Their playful rivalry forms the basis of their relationship, with each of them trying to outwit the other.
Takagi’s teasing and Nishikata’s attempts to retaliate create humorous situations that happen in their everyday lives at school. Despite their constant banter, there is an underlying sense of friendship and mutual respect between them, as they face the ups and downs of adolescence together.
