In the previous chapter of Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san, Nishikata and Takagi go to do Karaoko together. Takagi exclaims that she is extremely excited to do karaoke since it’s been more than a month since she came here with her friend Sumire and others. Takagi teases Nishikata saying that they are together alone and it feels just like a date which makes Nishikata extremely flustered and shy.

In reality, Nishikata did not intend to ask Takagi on a date but he wanted the special merch which would only be available if he came to the karaoke with a group of more than two people. Nishikata couldn’t tell Takagi the truth and he didn’t want to bring his friends along in fear of being found out. Nishikata realizes how this could seem like a date but tells Takagi that it’s not like that and pulls out notebooks from his back.

Nishikata believes that he can get higher than Takagi and challenges her to compare their scores. Nishikata gets a score of 84 and he believes he has beaten Takagi. The next time Takagi sings, it is on a whole different level and she ends up scoring 97. Nishikata is flustered that Takagi tricked him. Takagi puts on a duet song and both start singing together but when the part to say “I like you” comes, Nishikata freezes and Takagi says it for him instead.
