Chapter- 39: Confession
The chapter starts where it was left off in the previous chapter, Kaoruko with Rintaro is sitting on a bench. After he shares his feeling with her, rintaro thinks being selfish but Kaoruko interrupts him in the middle to say that he is not selfish. She talked about the day they first met, but both of them thought about different times. She says she met him way before Rintaro remembered, and she says that day he saved her, but by listening to this, Rintaro got shocked.
She told him that incident made her a regular customer of his father’s cake store, and she remembered it all so clearly and vividly. Then she told him about that day when she forgot to bring Umbrella and scarf on a snowy day, and then she stumbled upon that cake store. As she told him, she went through some difficult times, and she didn’t have any appetite, but she was in the store before she knew it due to the store’s inviting warmth.
Only one person was working there, and that was Rintaro. She ordered a cake and took a bite, she felt warm she had never tasted it before, tears were pouring from her eyes then, Rintaro came to cheer her up. She asked Rintaro about that day, but he did not remember anything.
He tried to remember, but he couldn’t. Kaoruko told him it was better that way for her, and she knew if there was another girl in her place, he would do the same thing, but his kindness saved her that day.
She even told him his kindness was so special to her, it made her happy that time, and he found it natural, which hurts. At the end of the chapter, she remembers what he said to her about the dispute between their high schools and doesn’t want to cause any trouble, so she confesses that where they met had nothing to do with school. He gave the strength and courage to her, at last, she confesses she loves him and also want to go out with him as Rintaro heard this he got shocked.
