On Thursday night, two players from the Kansas City Chiefs football team were arrested in Johnson County, Kansas. Their names are Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick, and they’re both 23 years old. The reason for their arrest was having marijuana, which is against the law in Kansas.
Booking records indicate that the linemen were held at the Johnson County Detention Center and released on Friday afternoon after posting a $2,500 bond.
Morris, drafted by the Chiefs in the third round last year, made four starts as a rookie filling in for the injured Donovan Smith. He allowed two sacks and 27 pressures and is expected to secure a starting position next season.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason has been absolutely crazy
Godrick, from Lagos, Nigeria, joined the Chiefs as an International Pathway Player in 2023. Previously a basketball player, he had not played organized American football before the recent preseason and had nearly given up on sports altogether.
The Kansas City Chiefs have experienced a tumultuous offseason since winning the Super Bowl in February. The celebration was marred by a mass shooting incident during their parade, resulting in one death and dozens of injuries.
Wide receiver Rashee Rice has also been in the news for legal issues. Following a hit-and-run incident in Dallas a few weeks ago, he faces the possibility of a significant suspension in 2024.
Additionally, kicker Harrison Butker faced national backlash after delivering a controversial speech at a commencement ceremony in Kansas, with fans petitioning for his removal from the team.
