At the age of 56, Kamar de los Reyes, who was well-known for his parts in the popular daytime series “One Life to Live” and different “Call of Duty” video game series, passed away.
In a statement to the Associated Press, Lisa Goldberg, a representative for the actor’s wife Sherri Saum, confirmed his passing. After a brief illness, De los Reyes passed away on Sunday in Los Angeles from cancer.
The co-star of De los Reyes in “One Life to Live,” Sean Ringgold, paid tribute on social media. Ringgold posted a video of De los Reyes wishing him a happy birthday on Instagram on Sunday. Ringgold spoke warmly of De los Reyes’s good nature and emphasized their long-lasting friendship outside of the studio.
With a diverse career spanning films, television shows, soap operas, and even the virtual battlefields of the “Call of Duty” franchise, Kamar de los Reyes has made a lasting impression on the entertainment industry. Through almost 300 episodes of the enduring soap opera “One Life to Live,” Kamar captivated audiences with his magnetic presence on screen, demonstrating his versatility as Antonio Vega.
Apart from the small screen, he played a variety of roles that shaped his journey, such as solving the mysteries of “Sleepy Hollow” and “The Mentalist” or embracing the spirit of competition in “All American.”
Sean Ringgold pays tribute to Kamar de los Reyes
“Innumerous backyard barbecues, shared steak dinners, and evenings capped off with great cigars – that’s how Sean Ringgold fondly remembered Kamar de los Reyes,” the caption read. “This man had a way of lifting my spirits and offering encouragement during tough times in the business, which is inevitable now and then.”
Ringgold continued, “Kamar will be missed, but his memory will always have a place in my heart,” with a heartfelt expression of affection. Until we meet again, Brother, I love you.” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actress Melissa Fumero, who costarred with De los Reyes on “One Life to Live,” posted Ringgold’s video to her Instagram story along with the sincere words, “We love you Kamar.”
Kamar de los Reyes’s rise to stardom
De los Reyes, who was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Las Vegas, began his television career in the mid-1990s with parts in the adaptations of Jacqueline Susann’s “Valley of the Dolls” and “ER,” as well as “One Life to Live.” De los Reyes played Antonio Vega in the latter, which ran from 1968 to 2012. Antonio Vega was a former gang member who later became a lawyer and a police officer.
De los Reyes took part in almost 300 episodes of the soap opera during his tenure, some of which starred Saum, his wife. Smaller roles in television shows like “Sleepy Hollow,” “The Rookie,” “All American,” “The Mentalist,” and “The Passage” are among his credits.
The Associated Press reported that the actor had recently completed filming for roles in Marvel’s upcoming “Daredevil” series and Hulu’s “Washington Black,” and was actively filming “All American” for the CW at the time of his passing.
After dabbling in theater work in the late 1980s, De los Reyes also made a name for himself in motion pictures such as “Salt,” “Nixon,” and “The Cell.” Known for his work on the well-liked “Call of Duty” video game series, he portrayed Raul Menendez in multiple games, such as “Black Ops II,” “Black Ops 4,” and “Vanguard.”
De los Reyes had a strong bond with Puerto Rico even though he lived in Los Angeles, as stated in the family statement obtained by the Associated Press. He leaves behind three sons: twins Michael and John (2009) and Caylen (26), who is still alive thanks to his wife.
