In the previous episode, Kikoru Shinomiya catches Kafka off guard and confronts him about his kaiju odor. Kafka, with a timely assist from Reno, manages to shake off Kikoru’s scrutiny, leaving her bewildered by his unexpected strength.

Kaiju No. 8 Episode 3 Recap
Episode 3 of Kaiju No. 8 picks up right where we left off. Kikoru Shinomiya confronts Kafka about his kaiju smell, but Kafka manages to slip away with Reno’s help. Kikoru is surprised by Kafka’s strength and promises to do better than him in the next part of the test.
In the fitness test, Kafka doesn’t do so well compared to Kikoru. He feels down about it, especially when Kikoru teases him.
But Reno reminds him that the next part of the test plays to his strengths: cleaning up after kaiju. At the test’s next stage, they find out they have to fight kaiju.
Each participant gets a special suit to help them fight. Kikoru has the strongest suit, while Kafka’s is the weakest.
Hoshina, the Third Division Vice-Captain, explains the rules and leads them to the battlefield. Kikoru shows off her skills, while Kafka and Reno come up with a plan to help the stronger participants.
During a fight with a kaiju, Kafka uses his knowledge to help defeat it. Others appreciate his help, but Kafka gets badly hurt in another fight. Kafka thinks about giving up, but Kikoru helps him keep going. Even though he’s hurt, Kafka refuses to quit.
