The fact that once you enter the world of K-Drama, there’s no going back. We’ve hand-picked, from the vast range of K-Dramas, the ones that display the relationship between parents and their children in the best way possible.
1. ‘Father Is Strange’
‘Father is Strange’ is a family drama that portrays family values very well—starring a variety of cast members like Jung So Min, Lee Joon, Kim Hae Sook, Ryu Hwa Young, Lee Yoo Ri, Ahn Hyo Seop, and many other actors who play different roles in the 52 episodes long series. If you don’t already know, it is from this series that Jung So Min and Lee Joon became closer and started dating. Unfortunately, they’ve already broken up.
Coming back to the drama, the drama shows the quirks and problems that an individual might face while living in a big middle-class family. The parents, named Na Young Pil and Byun Han Soo, are a loving couple who try their best to handle their four adult children and protect them from all that they can. They have their own problems, like managing their small diner ‘Daddy’s Snack Shop,’ but they never let their children know about their problems. They certainly are a pair of loving and protective parents.
2. ‘What Happens To My Family?’
Although Park Hyung Sik had played small roles in other K-Drama series before, ‘What Happens to My Family’ was one of the dramas that gave his career a kick-start. In this 53 Episodes long drama, Park Hyung Sik plays the role of the youngest son of the Cha Family, who struggles to find a stable job. His name in the series is Cha Dal Bong, one of the three siblings, adult children of the widower Cha Soong Bong. He is the head of the family and owns a Tofu Shop. He has devoted his life to his children, trying to fulfill all their needs since they were kids.
Cha Soong Bong has been providing for his family in the best way that he possibly can. His middle-child, Kang Jae, is an excellent oncologist who feels bad about his humble origin. He does not realize the fact that it was his middle-class father who had paid for his studies that ultimately led him to become such a good oncologist. The drama depicts various other obstacles that the four family members face as individuals and as a family, and how they eventually realize the value of each other in their life.

3. The Reply Series
Before talking about this anthology television series by Lee Woo Jung, let’s get to know the order in which each part of the drama series came out. The first Season was ‘Reply 1997’, the second was ‘Reply 1994’, and the third Season was ‘Reply 1988’. Because we don’t want to disclose the contents of all the seasons and give you spoilers, we’ll only talk about the latest Season, ‘Reply 1988’. ‘Reply 1988’ stars many well-known artists from today like Park Bo Gum, Lee Hye Ri, Ryu Jun Yeol, Go Kyung Pyo, and Lee dong Hwi. These five actors play the part of five childhood friends in the neighborhood of Ssangmun-dong, Dobong District, Northern Seoul. All the families of these five childhood friends have their own stories and problems that they’re trying to tackle.
For example, Sung Duk Seon (played by Lee Hye Ri) is the middle child of her family and feels neglected by her family. She is academically weak and is often compared to her elder sister Sung Bo Ra (played by Ryu Hye Young), who is a sturdy character and is focused on becoming a lawyer. But, Sung Duk Seon has a warm personality, being able to handle relationships with the people around her well. Little do the three siblings of the Sung family realize that their father is trying his best to provide for them while paying off a debt he fell into because of his friend. He argues with his wife, but both of them love each other very much.
His wife is also a caring character in the series who usually passes her time with the neighborhood ladies and cooks massive amounts of food to feed her family and also shares it with her neighbors. Another example would be Sun Woo’s (played by Go Kyung Pyo) mother, Sun Young. She is a widow who dotes on her two children and tries her very best to make up for the absence of their father.
4. ‘Flower of Evil’
The ‘Moon Lovers’ male lead ‘Lee Joon Gi’ plays the role of a man with a mysterious past in this series who has an apparently perfect family with his wife and an adorable little daughter. The series is about the character of Lee Joon Gi named Baek Hee Sung. He steals the identity of another person and lives with his family while hiding his past from them. Although the plot of the drama series is suspenseful, it doesn’t fail to make the viewers go ‘Aww’ for the relationship between the father and the daughter. Baek Hee Sung’s daughter is totally in love with her father.
She never misses any opportunities to show just how much she cares about her father and loves him. The relationship between the father and the daughter is always portrayed in a positive light. Baek Hee Sung is worried about the fact that one day when his daughter finds out the truth about him, she’ll stop loving him. The father is depicted helping her daughter get ready for school, cooking her breakfast, tying her shoelace, picking her up from school, etc. Basically, doing everything to show his daughter the extent to which he loves her. Who wouldn’t want such a father?
5. ‘Fight For My Way’
‘Fight for My Way’ is not exactly a family-centered drama, as it follows individuals who are trying to climb the ladder to success in their own fields of interest. But, the main characters in the series, four childhood friends, have their own families that care for them. The main cast of the series includes Park Seo Joon, Kim Ji Won, Ahn Jae Hong, and Song Ha Yoon. The parents of all the four friends take pride in them and the way they have grown up to be responsible adults. For example, Choi Ae Ra’s (played by Kim Ji Won) father is a single father who dotes on his daughter and is all for her making a career as an anchor. The relationship between the father and the daughter is heart-melting.
There is a scene in the series where Ae Ra calls her father to tell him that she has lost the role of an anchor. Here, despite the fact that he feels sad for his daughter, Ae Ra’s father motivates her to work harder and guarantees her that she’ll get all the success she deserves. Seol Hee’s mother has a protective nature, too, and doesn’t let Seol Hee get reprimanded by her supposed ‘mother-in-law’. She’s proud of her daughter and wants Seol Hee to have confidence in herself too.
We know that there are a lot more K-Dramas that cover the topic of parental love, but we’ll be signing off here. Do let us know about the other dramas which we could not cover in this article in the comment section below.
