Romeo and Juliet have met yet again, but this time, the setting is different from Shakespeare’s novels. Unlike the original Juliet, Juliet in this story has 3 contenders for becoming Romeo, and only fate will tell which one will end up with her. The story is off to a good start, and we can only hope for it to get even better in the future!
Juliet, You’re Not In Kansas Anymore! Chapter 3 opens up with Romeo and Juliet meeting in the school, and as it’s the second day of school for Romeo, Juliet decides to give him a tour.
Juliet first advises Romeo not to carry many books in his hand as the sophomores might mistake him for a freshman. Romeo follows Juliet’s advice, and then they both begin the school tour.
Recap
Juliet shows the labs, the hallways, and the canteen to Romeo, and she also adds her own opinions about all the places to assist Romeo. After a while, Romeo and Juliet bump into Nick.
Nick greets Juliet and then asks her to greet all of his subscribers through the vlog. Juliet takes this opportunity to tease Nick, and so she snatches his camera and urges all the subscribers to stop watching Nick’s channel and do something productive.
Nick doesn’t hold back after getting teased by Juliet, and so he strikes back at her by taking a dig at her relationship with Romeo. Juliet is left speechless because she didn’t expect Nick to be so brutal with his words. Nick decides to leave, and then Juliet apologizes to Romeo for all the commotion.
Romeo assures Juliet that she isn’t the only one suffering because of her name because he was also teased a lot. Juliet feels at ease knowing that she isn’t the only Shakespeare victim and so she asks Romeo what he told everyone when they teased her. Romeo responds that he just told everyone that he hasn’t met Juliet yet. Romeo’s response was a lot more wholesome, as Juliet just said that Romeo died.
Juliet says that Romeo is a nice name, but it would have been even better if it wasn’t associated with her name. Romeo tells Juliet that name doesn’t define anyone, and he even uses a line from the original Romeo and Juliet play to back his statement.
After sharing a moment of laughter, Romeo further explains that he was named Romeo because of his great-grandfather and not because it’s the name of a Shakespeare character.
Romeo further adds that he was a bit amused when he went to Italy and learned that people call cats by his name there. Juliet just laughs and pretends to follow Romeo’s words, but in reality, she has no clue about the world outside of Kansas. Romeo looks at Juliet and says that her name is pretty, even in Italy.
Juliet fails to think of a response to Romeo’s compliment, and so she just changes the subject. She feels embarrassed after a moment because she was too quick with her words. Romeo doesn’t mind the change, and so he goes along with the new subject.
The school tour finally comes to an end, and so Romeo leaves after saying his thanks to Juliet. Juliet rejoices because she can now finally be free, but her teacher, Mr. Harrison, stops her. Harrison inquires about the trip from Juliet, and Juliet replies that it went well.
The discussion continues, but Juliet struggles to keep up with Mr. Harrison’s obsession with Shakespeare, so she just runs away. Juliet gets in her car to finally return home, but someone stops her by knocking on her window.
Juliet rolls her windows down and finds Jasmine standing outside. Jasmine hands over a bag to Juliet and asks her to deliver it to Luke. The already confused Juliet gets confused even more as she tries to figure out which Luke Jasmine is talking about.
Jasmine says that the bag is for Luke Theobold, Juliet’s neighbor. Juliet grows even more suspicious of the situation as she tries to figure out the relationship between Jasmine and Luke. Jasmine just replies that she works with Luke at the culture center, but she won’t be able to make it that day, so she’s taking Juliet’s help. Juliet eventually agrees to help her.
