Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has officially ended with episode 23 on 28 December 2023. However, right after the final episode aired, Jujutsu Kaisen’s official social media pages released a trailer for the next arc, Culling Game.
There is no doubt that Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 was a complete banger. It started with showing Gojo’s past and then ended with Yuji getting the death penalty from Yuta. The action sequence and animation were well adapted, and every episode of Jujustu Kaisen Season 2 has been rated above 9 ratings on IMDB.
Even though there was some news coming out that Mappa wasn’t giving their animators enough time to animate the episodes, their animator did a great job of animating such amazing episodes on such a tight schedule.
However, we are not here to talk about how great Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 was; we here talk about the trailer released by Jujutsu Kaisen’s official social media pages, which announced the next sequel of the anime, and also when we can expect it to be released.
Culling Game Trailer Breakdown
The trailer starts by confirming that Mappa will continue animating the next sequel of Jujutsu Kaisen. In the next scene, we see a close-up shot of Megumi, who is pretty injured. Maybe it’s after the battle in Shibuya.
In the next scene, we see Kenjaku/Geto raising his hand, and in another shot, we see Choso getting ready to fight. This may indicate that we may soon see a rematch between Choso and Kenjaku in season 3.
In the final scene, we see Yuta arriving at the bridge on which we saw Yuji at the end of the season. Yuji seemed a bit confused on seeing Yuta, as it was his first time meeting him. And Yuta may be on his way to execute Yuji on behalf of the Jujutsu society. The trailer ends by revealing the name of the next arc, Culling Game.

Expected Release Year for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3
The release date/year for season 3 wasn’t mentioned in the trailer, and I don’t think it will be revealed soon. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 was released on 3 October 2020, then its movie on December 24, 2021, and finally, season 2 on July 6, 2023.
So it took almost three years for them to animate its next season or two years if we count Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Mappa is fully busy next year with animes like Bucchigiri?!, Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku Season 2, Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill Season 2, Lazarus, Zombie Land Saga the Movie, Yuri!!! on Ice the Movie: Ice Adolescence, and Chainsaw Men – Movie Rize.
So, there is no way that we will be seeing Jujutsu Kaisen next year unless they give it priority. What I think is that we may see Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 at the start of 2025 or spring of 2025. This is the most logical release year, possibly for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3.
What is Going to Happen in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3?
SPOILERS! Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 will start with the meeting of the Zen’in clan to choose their next head since Naobito Zen’in died in Shibuya. Naobito had written a letter before he died in which he declared Megumi Fushiguro as the next head of the Zen’in clan.
We will then see Yuji fighting the cursed spirit, which we see coming from his back at the end of season 2. He will work with Choso to exercise them.
Naoya Zen’in arrives at the scene to look for Megumi since he wants him dead, as his death will make him the next head. However, as Naoya goes to fight Yuji and Choso, Yuta also arrives at the scene. Yuta teams up with Naoya and asks him to take on Choso while he kills Yuji.
We see a battle sequence between Yuta and Yuji, where Yuta temporarily kills Yuji and then heals him instantly with reverse curse energy. This completes his bidding vow of killing Yuji. You can start reading Jujutsu Kaisen Manga from chapter 138 if you want to know the story head.
