The students of KIPP AMP Middle School were frozen out by the surprise Cody Rhodes gave them as he bought all the tickets to WrestleMania 40 for them. The students are from Victor Taylor Perry’s ‘Wrestling Club’; they were trying to raise funds to collect enough money by selling popcorn to travel to WrestleMania 40, which is going to happen later this spring in Philadelphia.
Through a tweet, the WWE superstar let them know that he’d be paying for the kid’s tickets as well as for their hotel rooms. It was a WrestleMania dream that came true for the kids, and the priceless reaction captured by Perry that he shared with Rhodes was enough to prove their happiness.
Cody Rhodes bought a WrestleMania 40 ticket for ‘Wrestling Club.’
Cody Rhodes bought the whole ticket to WrestleMania 40 for KIPP AMP Middle School teacher Victor Taylor Perry’s “Wrestling Club” students, who have been trying to raise funds to make a total amount of money that’s enough to travel to WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia later this spring.
When the idea of fundraising caught the eye of the WWE superstar, Rodes (38), he sent them back a tweet letting them know that he’d be paying for all of their tickets along with the cost of their hotel rooms. Following this, when the students found it, they froze.
After Rhodes’ tweet, Perry broke this news to the students and captured their reaction to it, which was cheerful as they got to know it. When Perrey shared the video with Rhodes, he responded, “Seeing their reaction was priceless.” to the video.
The reaction was something that brought peace and joy to Rhodes, as he said, “Good things happen to good people. This is what I really like about social media: bright spots like these amazing kids.” In the video shared by Perry, Rhodes said, “I could buy a bunch of popcorn, or I could just tell ya’ I’ve got your tickets and hotels. You’re going to WrestleMania 40,” to the class.
According to Perry’s tweet, the extracurricular club’s joy was absolutely incredible after they found out the news, and they were so happy for each other, and that ‘speaks directly to the community that is TWC.’ Perry has gained popularity among some professional wrestling communities in recent years through the ‘Wrestling Club’ that he runs at the KIPP AMP Middle School in Brooklyn, New York.
Oftentimes, viral lesson videos of Perry have been seen, where he is using Pro wrestling as a tool while teaching his students. He has also collaborated with wrestling companies and performers themselves in recent years.
Rhodes had first discovered the club through his sister, Teil, and he was blown away when he got to see them. He stated that he had never had anything like that while he was growing up, and he wishes that he had.
He said, “What I like most about TWC is the sense that community wrestling is more popular than ever, but when it wasn’t, it was difficult to find and connect with people as fashion wrestling as you were,” to the people. He shared that “they’ve got a place to discuss the highs and lows of it all, support each other, and have fun” at the outlet.
Change.org says, “Victor has brought together a group of kids where he shows matches from all over the world.” in a petition that aims to earn Perry recognition by WWE for his work. They have also mentioned that “he’s taken them to small-town wrestling events as well as Monday night RAW at the Barclays Centre.”
In his past experience, Perry has collaborated with WWE wrestlers like Rhodes, Big E Langston, Cedric Alexander, Titus O’Neil, and Shelton Benjamin. They’ve also surprised his students by showing up to their Brooklyn classroom.
WrestleMania 40 will be taking place for two nights in Philadelphia on April 1 and 2, 2023. Rhodes had also been featured in the main event match against WWE champion Roman Reigns and is widely expected to be challenging for a rematch this year as well.
Rhodes has been hoping to meet up with The Wrestling Club students at WrestleMania 40. He’s been looking for some other way to meet them as well, and he said, “My wife Brandi wants to find a way to set up a meeting for me with kids that weekend.” Rhodes is also wondering if he should just show up at the school and surprise them.
