JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure famously changes the type of story it tells with every new installment, and with each change, there’s always a new kind of villain for the heroes to confront. Naturally, there will be some overlap in powers and personalities, but one can always expect the main villain in a new part to be completely different from the one they just finished reading about.
The JOJOLands is the latest installment of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and after over a year of mystery, chapter #17 might have finally revealed the main villain of the story, Acca Howler.
Howler has only appeared in one chapter so far, so there isn’t much information about his character, but what little has been shown makes it clear that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is continuing its tradition of completely changing how its villains act. This change aligns well with the general theme of The JOJOLands, promising many interesting developments surrounding Howler in future chapters.
Acca Howler Shakes Up JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure with Flamboyant Public Persona and Unique Defeat Strategy
Most JoJo villains tend to be recluses who rarely interact with others and keep their true selves hidden. However, just from a single chapter, The JOJOLands establishes Acca Howler as a flamboyant and expressive villain whose actions are very much public, a stark contrast to how villains are usually depicted.
Previous chapters depicted HOWLER as a company very publicly known for illegal activities, so Acca Howler’s characterization can be seen as a natural extension of that.
Acca Howler also differs from previous villains in how easy it is to deal with him. In every other part, the villains can only be defeated by the heroes in a fight, but Howler can be defeated simply by bankrupting him without Jodio ever needing to fight him.
That’s not to say a fight won’t happen, as Howler has already taken deadly measures to counter interference in his affairs, but it shows that Howler is far less invincible than villains like Dio or Diavolo.
Another interesting element of Acca Howler’s character is how he continues the contrast between The JOJOLands and Golden Wind by being a foil to Diavolo.
Not only does Howler’s public persona directly contrast Diavolo’s reclusiveness, but the reveal that Howler used the lava rocks to become rich directly contrasts Diavolo doing so with the Stand Arrows. These factors and others make Howler a great new addition to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and it will be fascinating to see what the series does with him.
