“If You Would Have Told Me,” John Stamos’ upcoming memoir, will recount the tale of his previous romance and heartbreak. The “Full House” star alleges in the book that Teri Copley’s infidelity with actor Tony Danza was the reason for the breakup of his marriage.
Although he lost out on his ideal girlfriend to a different sitcom beauty, Stamos claims that the experience helped him succeed in the end.
Despite his intense feelings of love for Teri Copley, John Stamos writes in his memoir that following his return from touring with car shows and playing with the cover band Papa Doo Run Run, Copley began to turn away from him.
How John Stamos caught Teri Copley cheating him
Stamos chose to pay Copley a visit at her home because he was concerned about her distant demeanor. There was a car in the driveway when he arrived. When he went to check the car, he discovered boxing gloves, a hairbrush, keys, and a partially unfolded poster of his girlfriend.
She was shown in the poster completely nude, with only a thin white sheet covering her. In his memoir, Stamos stated, “I’ve never seen this poster before.”
When Stamos couldn’t get into Copley’s main house, he went to the guesthouse and found her sleeping with someone else. Despite not being able to identify the man, Stamos called him “Mr. Porsche Speedster” due to the classic convertible that was parked in Copley’s driveway.
“My heart was racing, my thoughts were chaotic, and the room felt like it was spinning,” Stamos said, describing his feelings at the moment. Standing in her guesthouse with its white shag carpet, I felt terribly queasy. It felt like I was experiencing my worst nightmare.”
Stamos looked more closely at the poster he discovered inside the Porsche as he was leaving Copley’s house. He found out that Copley had signed the poster, writing, “My Dear Tony, I’ll love you forever.”
Stamos discovered Copley’s lover’s identity while listening to “Tiny Dancer” by Elton John on the way home. Hold me closer, Tony Danza was the name of his rival, he realized as he mouthed the lyrics.
John Stamos’s hard times paved the way for his good times
Ironically, Stamos states in his memoir that Tony Danza had a big influence on how he developed as an actor. When the first season of John Stamos’s “Full House” didn’t do as well in the ratings as anticipated, Danza’s hit sitcom “Who’s the Boss?” with Danza was carefully scheduled to air alongside it on the ABC network. In the end, this combination helped “Full House” attract more viewers.
“If someone had told me that the day I walked into that room and discovered my true love in bed with another guy, and that Tony Danza’s show, ‘Who’s the Boss?,’ would propel ‘Full House’ into a genuine hit, turning me into a household name, I wouldn’t have believed it,” Stamos writes in his memoir, reflecting on the unexpected turn of events. But as you can see, surprises abound in life. Thus, Tony Danza, thank you.”
Stamos reveals why he mentioned his betrayal in his memoir
In order to establish a personal connection with his readers, Stamos included the purported incident in his memoir. His message was that everyone has difficulties in life, and occasionally people will make up excuses for why they were duped, like not having enough money or not being good-looking enough. Stamos emphasized that although he had many good qualities of his own, people can be unpredictable in their actions, and this unpredictability is a part of life.
Stamos said that eventually, everything appeared to balance out. Since “Who’s the Boss?” was the lead-in program, he admitted that it contributed significantly to “Full House’s” early success. This paved the way for his acting career and made “Full House” the foundation for it.
